sidecarring and drop side crib?

Hi all, my DS will be 5 months tomorrow (hard to believe), and he has been cosleeping with me -- but since DH is an insomniac/light sleeper, that often means that DS and I sleep in the bed and DH sleeps on the futon, or the other way around. While on vacation and sleeping in a smaller bed we tried having DS sleep in a play pen -- the result was that nobody really slept. I kept having to wake up for nursing. DS kept waking up to find that he was alone and unhappy. DH woke up when we woke up -- so, now I'm really a co-sleeping convert. In an attempt to get DH and I back to sleeping in the same bed, though,I'm thinking of getting a crib and side carring it. I found a nice crib for sale locally, at a decent price, but it is a drop side crib. If I'm side carring it, does that matter? Would it be safe, or should I look for something else?

If you are removing the side, it's fine. The issues with the dropside cribs are people putting them together wrong, the hardware failing and baby getting trapped.
I'm using a side carred drop side crib with the drop side removed
