So, my DD is currently four months old and she sleeps in the bed with us. We have a sidecar (pack n play bassinet), but its almost impossible to get her to sleep in it. I ususally put her down to sleep by laying down with her and nursing her, which I really don't mind doing. In order to put her in her side car, I'd have to pick her up and put her there after she is asleep. She almost always wakes up.
DH and I both like having her in the bed with us, but we need some personal time that is not on the couch or in the floor. He works late hours, sometimes not getting home until after she's asleep, so having alone time while she's napping is not really an option. Also, with 3 people in a full sized bed in the middle of July, its HOT (we have fans, but no AC).
What I would like to do is get a twin mattress and put it on the floor, next to the wall, in our room. Our room is pretty small, so no matter where I put her she will be really close by. I can lay down and nurse with her until she falls asleep. When she is asleep, I can get up until we go to bed. She usually goes to sleep around 10:45 and wakes up around 4:00 to nurse. At that point I would either go lay down with her in her bed, or since DH loves waking up to her kicking and playing around 7:00, I'd bring her to our bed for the remainder of sleep time. Plus, it's cooler in the middle of the night and early in the morning than it is when we go to bed.
Now, I know this sleep schedule that she is currently on will probably change. It doesnt really matter what time she wakes up to nurse, we'd just like for her to fall asleep somewhere else for the first part of the night.
Does anyone else use a toddler bed for their infant? DH wants to build a floor frame for it with a headboard. The idea would be that the bed could eventually be risen up off the floor, but would be on the floor until she was old enough to get in and out of it and not roll out. The other option is to go ahead and raise it off the floor and but one of those sidebars on it so that she can't roll out. Any thoughts, opinions, or ideas?
