My partner and I are pregnant with our 2nd child who is due in November. A boy! We have a 2 year old little girl and my partner has 2 older children (an 8 year old boy- who is slightly autistic & a 6 year old little girl… they live in Utah with there mom). So he is for sure DONE and has been planning to get a vasectomy after this baby is born. I have only ever wanted 2 children and am happy about my little boy in the belly and my crazy toddler.

I’m 24 and healthy. I’m also very fertile and my partner has super sperm. Hahaha! We’ve been pregnant 4x! First time each time and 2 ended in early miscarriages. Sooo I’m scared that his super sperm will some how manage to stick around and make baby #3! I’m all for choice, but now that I’ve had children I could never and would never abort. Bottom line is I know I want a permanent method of birth control for both myself and my partner. The vasectomy is a given, but I’m wondering about tubal ligation for myself. Not because I question how many children I want, but because I tend to be pretty sensitive to hormonal changes. I can not be on any form of hormone birth control… I literally go crazy. I ended up in the hospital for a suicide attempt the last time I was on birth control (Yasmin in case your wondering) as soon as I was off the birth control all of my “crazy” symptoms disappeared. Doctors thought I was just nuts-o but that was 3 years ago and I’ve never had anything like that since. I also have a history of depression/anti-psychotic medication having the opposite effect on me. Scary stuff!

Am I right to say that tubal ligation whether laparoscopy or something like Essure are the only forums of permanent sterilization besides a hysterectomy? I’m on medi-cal and I’ve been told that it covers tubal litigation.

The only other option I know of is the ParaGard although not permanent it’s suppose to last 10 years? I’m almost 95% positive I do not want to go this route… something stuck up me, longer periods (I love my short & regular periods thank you!), and again something just stuck up there… Uhh… my 3-4 days of using organic tampons each month bugs me enough! Haha

What should I know about tubal ligation? Is there another way I’m not seeing? (Condoms are out! Never liked them and never use them) Natural family planning is out too since I want a worry free method.

Also has anyone NOT had their tubal ligation done in the hospital after they had their baby? My daughter’s birth was un-medicated in the hospital with no complications and no interventions… This time I was hoping for a home birth but looks like I’ll be in the hospital again due to financial troubles. Anyways so I’m planning to get in and get out as fast as possible. I think I would prefer to do the tubal ligation as an out-patient procedure. I just can’t imagine having my baby and then getting messed with for the tubal. Eck. I don’t feel the need to get the tubal ligation done immediately following the birth because my partner will be getting the vasectomy that month and I bleed for at least 4-6 weeks so I’m not worried about getting pregnant straight away. I just want to know that I’ve done everything in my power to ensure no more kiddos in our future! Then if by some hysterical joke the universe puts a baby in my belly after taking permanent measures then I guess I’ll just know I was meant for more than 2! Hahaha But yeah… lets not let that happen!

I’m extremely happy that I will be 42 and my children will be 18 and 20! Extremely happy about this!!!! Both my mom and my older half sister (by 14 years) had their 2nd children 12 & 13 years apart! No way in hell am I doing that! LOL!
