Our beautiful dd arrived 11 days ago and is feeding & sleeping like a dream. Ds, who will be 3 in August, has always shared our bed and has been sleeping through the night for a long time now. He still bfs, majorly on the increase since the arrival of his little sister -but that's not the issue here. I put him to bed with booby and plenty of cuddles. Then dh, dd & I go to bed later.
Dd at them moment feeds around 1:00am, 3:00 or 4:00am and 5:30 or 6:00am. The problem is that ds is now waking for the 5:30/6:00am feed, is so excited about his new baby sister and we just can't get him back to sleep. It doesn't help that it's summertime, so it's bright at 5:30am. We've had lots of chat about how even though it's bright, it is still sleepy-time. We talk about it during the day and when I'm putting him to bed. And he agrees to try to go back to sleep until we tell him it's wakey-time. But every morning, he is so excited, once he wakes up he can't get back to sleep. And he's pretty manic.
Poor dh has been getting up with him, and is exhausted. And is due back to work soon.
Have any of you been through this? We may just all have to go bed earlier until ds gets used to his sister and he stops being so excited. Or did any of you have good strategies that helped?
We only have one bed and one bedroom, by the way - so it's not like we can even split up at night-time (although dh may be making a bed on the living room floor soon
).
At least it's excitement and over-enthusiastic love, and not jealousy. But it's still very tiring.
Any comments welcome.
