Charlie Horses?

Okay, yesterday was the 3rd time this has happened. It feels like a charlie horse from my lower back to about halfway up my back but only on the right side. It hurts SO BAD and I don't know what to do to get rid of it or prevent them. DH was petrified it was contractions (he worries about everything) but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it. It lasted about 5 minutes, fit my basic understanding of charlie horses, and hurt like a .

Huh, that's an odd place to get a charlie horse. I use a magnesium supplement to prevent cramps, but they always occur in my calves or sometimes my hips (late in the third trimester). Honestly, I would bring it up next time you see your hcp.... the location is such a strange place to be having a cramp like that. You don't have any sensitivity to touch there, right? As in, it's not sensitive except for the cramp?

No, when I'm not having one that area feels fine.

HUH... figured you would be talking about RLP, but thats more of a charlie horse in the front, I do not know if its possible that your round ligament be far enough back to feel like its in your back?

try drinking a ton of tonic water (you know, the kind with quinine). That will help if it is really a cramp.
Also, you can drink cold water with some apple cider vinegar in it to help with cramps.

Potassium is supposed to help with muscle cramps in pregnancy, too-- when I got a charlie horse down in my calf last pregnancy, I always made sure to eat a couple bananas later!

I was told to eat a banana and have a glass of milk (yuck!) before bed, but I think a calcium/magnesium/potassium supp would work the same way.

I know for my legs, magnesium supplements have really helped.

There are round ligaments that connect the uterus to the back about half way up. If you do some googling you might be able to find a good image. However that does sound more like a charlie horse than round ligament pain .. except for the location.

Anyhow, I drink tons and tons of coconut water. It has more potassium than bananas as well as providing excellent hydration. And it's addictive ... and expensive

Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxor. Calcium is a natural muscle contractor.

I'm having a pretty mild one right now... although mild is still about the strength of a menstrual cramp (although its not in the same area).

I *think* its the Latissimus Dorsi Muscle.

I've gotten three so far this pregnancy ( 1- 2nd tri. 2 - 3rd tri) all in my right calf!!! It hurts SOOO bad! But the worst is the next day when I can barely walk. Just miserable....
