Can sposies cause thrush???
Neither DD nor I have ever had thrush (including vaginal yeast infections). We used sposies for her first 4 months, then switched to CD. She's been rashy on and off throughout but it was usually a sort of patchy redness that followed the outlines of her latest poo smear (a great argument for EC, sigh). Usually I'd use a sposie with zinc oxide cream to clear it up if it got bad.
Now at 14 mo I'm back to WOH full time and my MIL is doing baby care. She is not on board with the CDs so DD is back in sposies.
About a week after we switched to sposies f/t (4 days ago) my nipples started to hurt while nursing. Left side hurts more and the top half of left nipple/areola is bright pink, with some white flaky dryness in spots. Right side hurts less and looks normal.
Two days after I started noticing the nipple pain, DD's diaper rash got out of control. She now has a true macular rash on her labia and inner thighs, confluent toward the inner aspect of the labia and sparing the buttocks completely.
I started putting a vinegar/water solution on my nipples and it really helped. I tried it on DD's rash once but she screamed

so I washed it right off and didn't try that again. Yesterday I gave her some time diaper-free and coverless, and bought some clotrimazole cream and some nystatin mouthwash. She got the clotrimazole cream overnight and the rash is less angry this morning. I haven't tried the nystatin yet but will start that tonight. I boiled all her bottles and nipples last night.
Based on all the above, I think we have thrush. My question is, why now?? at 14 months? Neither of us are on antibiotics or otherwise immunocompromised. Our diets have changed slightly since MIL got here but not unhealthily so, and she was also here when DD was between 2 and 6 months and we didn't have this problem then either. The only real change I can finger is the sposies. Anyone have any experience with this to share?
