Diaperbag question for cloth users

I was never happy with the diaperbag I had with DD, it was too narrow and her CDs took up the whole bag, leaving no room for other things. Does anyone have a diaperbag that hold CD well? I was even thinking of getting a messenger style bookbag (found one at target with water resistant lining). I don't want the whole bag to be huge, just maybe wider.

PS. I'm not paying $100 for something to put diapers in

I got a $12 tote from Target to use as my diaper bag. I'm not a fan of 'diaper bags' in general, they are overpriced and crappy quality, IME and I also will not pay $100 for something to put diapers in.

I just use a shoulder bag that I got on sale at a local outdoors store. I agree with demeter that the quality of "diaper" bags is usually awful & no way I'm paying extra for that.

Yeah, I've never really found a diaperbag that I liked last time around. I bought one of the bookbags at target, I'm gonna dig out my diaper stash and pack the bag to see if everything fits, if not I'll take it back.

Now if I can just remember what I used to pack in the diaperbag

I had an LL bean tote that I mostly ended up using - large, with a zip top. I think they (or lands end?) has a diaper bag I've heard people have liked who use cloth dipes too.

We only CD part time (limited stash) but I use a regular old backpack. I can fit enough sposies and cloth, a change of clothes, a box of wipes, a few toys, coloring book and crayons, emergency snack stash, a cup, my bottle of water and when I don't feel like carrying my purse too, the contents of my purse in it, and it has plenty of pockets to keep it all organized. Plus it's durable, so when I throw it in the van and the straps get shut in the door it's no big deal.

I use a wool diaper bag from little beetle (better for babies) and I love it! it has a draw string which I hang off a hook on our changing table. It has never needed to be washed and we've NEVER had any issues with smelling the diapers. It really works so well.

To quote Dora - Backpack! Backpack!

I got ours from MEC - I'm sure somewhere like REI has similar stuff. It's a day-tripper style pack, and has lasted through years of daily use without looking any different than new.

I have a messenger bag I found at REI. The only reason I didn't use a backpack is because I prefer back carries. Not exactly this one but pretty much. It was on sale for 50% off and I had a dividend so it was like $3.

I use a backpack, too, my old one from college.
It has the perfect amount of pockets, is sturdy, has lovely padded straps, and has handy outside pockets for water bottles. It's similar to this one, but not quite the same. It's pretty big, so if I'm only going out for a few minutes, I don't take it with me.
For short errands, I usually use one of these for just one change of diaper/clothes and one bottle.

I also have a homemade big canvas many-pocketed diaper bag, but I don't use it as often, because it always slips off my shoulder.

With DD1, I had a DJ bag (messenger bag sized to haul records around in) that perfectly fit a stack of prefolds, a baggie of wipes, a cover, and not much else.

For all day outings, I love love looooove my Ju Ju Be Prepared. It's pricey but worth every penny. I also have a Ju Ju Be All for shorter trips and I love it as well. The Be All can hold three or four cloth diapers easily (and lots of other stuff as well). I love the JJB bags because there is SO much organization -- it's not all lost in a big, dark hole. And everything is made of hardware so it's not going to break. And the changing pads are made with memory foam and I much prefer using those when I can't change DD on a soft surface./

Whoops, disregard my last post. I missed your last line. FWIW, I am super frugal and never spend big bucks on anything, and I'd spend the $100+ all over again. This bag will last me through all of my children so to me, it's worth the investment and I won't be buying and re-buying cheaper bags that just fall apart.

i use a ziplock bag...

i have one big ziplock with two diapers and wipes and an extra cover, with an extra ziplock inside for the dirty diapers. and then i throw the whole shebang in my purse when we're just going out for a short trip, or in my backpack with a change of clothes for longer trips.

can't get much cheaper than that.
