Cervix in late pregnancy?

I am 38 weeks with my fourth baby. I have been having contractions on and off today but they seemed to have died downnow. I charted to conceive all of my children so I was a good "cervix checker" pre pregnancy and out of interest today tried to have a little feel to see if anything has changed but couldnt really reach (I could just about touch it with the tip of my finger but nothing else).
My husband offered to give it a go his description of it is soft and squishy he could easily fit two fingers in - fair enough but the bit that got me was "with a meaty bit sticking out". a meaty bit? what on earth is this! I pushed him to describe it more but he just keeps repeating a meaty bit....

what could this be?!

He is probably talking about the edge of the cervix. Sometimes mine is round all the way and other times only half the cervix is funneling, It all depends on babies head placement.
