biting

how do you deal with it?

my 10.5mo ds just got his first two teeth. he has taken to biting everything and everyone in sight. I think I've got a handle on him biting while bfing - basically I pay close attention and if he starts looking "bitey" we're done, or if I miss his body language and he bites me he gets put down - but I m at a loss for what to do when he comes up and bites me/dh on the leg/finger/arm. he also bites my shoulder but that is easy to prevent.

it's really frustrating

My son bit also when the front teeth came in- it was short lived though as soon as they were well erupted. I would say... one week of intense biting and that was all. The other six didn't bother him as much, perhaps they broke through the surface easier.

Afraid im not as comforting as the pp. My 10 mo bites everything. At first he limited himself to protruberences (toes, nipples), but now he's taken to crawling over and biting my forearm. We're working on tooth 7.

DS went through a biting phase that lasted two months or so. He didn't get any teeth during that time so I don't know why he did it. Everytime he bit me, I would pull away or hold him away from me, look in his face and say "Ouch, no biting! That hurts!" I used a loudish voice, not yelling but firm. I would usually frown too. At first he thought it was funny and would make a tenative smile, then after a couple weeks he went to the serious face, then by a couple weeks later, he whimpered once or twice. Eventually, he got the message because he's stopped biting. I can tell now that sometimes he'll want to bite but checks himself. Usually, it's when he's excited to see me and puts his open mouth on my shoulder or neck. Biting is one of those behaviors that makes me furious instantaneously so I'm happy that it's something that stopped. Good Luck!
