Diaper sprayer ?'s

We haven't invested in one and I just had a couple of questions.

How hard is the spray? Is it more forceful than a kitchen sink sprayer? I just can't see how it works unless it is a heavy duty.

Also how does it not splash poo particles around the toilet and surrounding area? I feel like I would need to disinfect the toilet after a spray. What about it spraying back in your face? Trust me I have dumped a solid in the toilet and been hit in the eye with toilet water. NASTY!

THX!

I never bothered buying one. I was always afraid of poo splatters too

We have this one for our 16 month old's dipes and love. it. It took forever for my husband to finally hook it up, and even he regretted not doing it sooner. You control the force of the spray by how much you turn on the faucet at the base of the sprayer (but to get enough force for our baby's sticky poops, you need full spray), and you avoid poo spray by holding the nozzle close to the diaper. The water and poop just runs down the dipe into the toilet. It made a huge difference in the washing machine grossness, and was less hands-on in terms of getting the poop off the diaper before throwing it into the pail. My friend's son has pretty solid poops that she can just off into the toilet, but there's no sign of that for us yet.

I'm also thinking of buying one. My dh has always been the one to care for the poop dunk and I think he would love to have this for easier process to remove the poop from the diapers.

I have one and I don't think it's worth it. It is messy. I very rarely use it.

I have one and haven't quite mastered the art of spraying yet, but I don't use it all that much (MIL stays home with dd), I think it would have been nice to have post partum, and it's kind of slick to use for hygiene...when i remember!

It took a little bit of practice but at this point I feel quite confident saying that for me it is The Best Thing Ever. I think I would have given up on cloth without it. I am *not* interested in touching poop. At all. So I don't. You have to be careful about where you set the water pressure, but I don't have a problem with splashing.

I'm in love with our sprayer. I'm not sure how CDers do it without one! We have a break from diaps right now but I still use it on the toddler potty multiple times a day. It does have serious pressure- if I need it lower, like for rinsing pee out of the tot potty or something, I just flush the toilet first and spray it while it's flushing. It chills it out a lot

My husband had a hard time with the sprayer at first but I never did. IMO, if you just think about it and hold it at the right angle, it's not messy. The BumGenius diaper sprayer has a valve where you can adjust the stream. I don't put it on full blast because THEN you will get a mess for sure, lol. I just put it powerful enough to do the job -- after a few uses you learn where you need to adjust the nozzle for your needs. I just pull the diaper backwards (hard to explain, I hold the ends of the diaper back to back so the PUL is touching inside the loop and I am actually touching both side of the inner of the diaper) and hold the diaper low in the toilet and spray close to the diaper and downwards. I never get any gross splatters and this angle forces things to fall off pretty easily, lol.

That's what I do. Sort of the way you turn a mango peel inside out after slicing through the fruit, lol: http://www.flickr.com/photos/teenytinyturkey/402366003/
We were using flushable liners, but I find this more helpful. If the poo will easily slide off, I dump it right when I change the diaper. If not, I just put it in the pail and as I'm preparing to do diaper laundry I spray the ones that need it. This has the added benefit (for me) of making my front-loader use a bit more water, I think. Similar to the wet towel trick.
