So much between his legs at night - can I hurt his hips?

DS is a VERY heavy wetter at night. DH asked is I could damage his hips bec there is so much between his legs that they are spread open wider than normal. He even walks kind of funny.

This is my 1st attempt at night time diapering & the first thing I did worked as long as I have enough stuff packed in the cover. I use:
Happy Hempy pocket diap stuffed with 1 hemp stuffin, 1 hemp doubler, 1 microfiber doubler & a small prefold all in a So Simple cover. He is saturated in the AM, but no leaks

Could this do any harm? Any other suggestions?

I don't think it will hurt him any... my kids have super fluffy butts at night, my 2 year old has always been cloth diapered and he shows no ill effects! I mean, they are just sleeping...

It's fine IMO. My mom told me they would put three prefolds on us before bed and then laugh at us trying to walk around. We're all fine

We do sposies at night for this very reason. I don't want to hurt their back or hips in the name of cloth and I love cloth. FWIW, both my kids sleep 12 hrs at nite uninterrupted and don't wake to change or anything and they're heavy wetters.

I put his night-time dipe on right before I put him down, and I take it off when he gets up. He can't really crawl or even sit well in it, it's so fluffy. But I'm not worried about his hips.

FTR, I use a HH also, and have it stuffed with 2 PFs and a Babykicks Hemparoo doubler folded in half into his wet zone. Under a Babyology soaker or a Mommy's Touch OS cover.

I don't think it will hurt his hips. My DH had a hip problem when he was born and my MIL had to double and sometimes even triple diaper him (they used disposables) to keep his legs spread further, as this helps with proper hip development!

Ds had a hip click at birth & one of the recommendations was to double diaper.

Most of us (or at least our parents) grew up cloth diapered & we don't have difficulties due to this.

I can't remember where, but I read recently that it's actually good for hip development.

If a baby already has hip problems, the cast they put them in splays the hips. http://www.schneiderchildrenshospita...aedics/ddh.htm Double diapering makes a much gentler spread (and as others have said, has been done for generations) so I really don't think there's a problem.

OK. good to hear you all feel the same way. Honestly I didnt even think of it until DH said something.

Since I started with cloth at night we have had no leaks & no changes in the middle of the night. Before this I was using Huggies night time diap with a hemp insert & having to change at least once if not twice at night, so I really dont want to go back to sposies.
