Need some extra help with Babywearing 101

I really want to wear my almost 4-month-old, but somehow we're just not getting it. We have a Moby wrap, and it worked really well for us when Bea was younger. Now, however, she won't tolerate it for more than 10 or so minutes before she starts wriggling her lower body and eventually yelling as though she feels constrained. We've tried lotus, hug (her old favorite), hip (she can't hold herself up quite well enough yet), and cradle. Cradle is most similar to how she likes to be carried these days, but she doesn't like having her legs confined, and I always feel like she's about to fall out.

From reading other posts, it seems that people use multiple types of carriers as their babies grow and change. We've been looking at patterns for ring slings and mei tais in hopes of making those, since we don't have the budget right now to buy anything new. Any recommendations for patterns that worked for you? Did your baby have a period when he/she did not like being worn? Is there a hold out there that's similar to the cradle but allows the babies legs to dangle?

Whew. I think that's all. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's not usually recommended, since it's not as comfy for the adult doing the wearing, but you can reverse the hug hold so the baby is facing out. Mine liked that better at that age when he was awake (sleepy, he liked face in). If you get/make a woven wrap, you have more options, including a variety of back carries. I never got the hang of the one ring sling I was given, so my kid has been wrap the whole way (he's 17 months now), and we've always found something that works for us. We switched to a woven wrap at 6-7 months, though.
