How do you know if lanolizing worked?

1st time wool user here

I just got in some loveybums today & I am so excited. I followed their directions for lanolizing & wonder if it worked. How can I tell besides ending up with 2 saturated LOs?

I am waiting for my first wool to come in the mail... but I would guess you just use it and see how it does! I will be watching this thread though to see what more experienced wool users have to say

Put baby in dipes and woolies and do a back carry - that's how I found out mine needed to be re-lanolized!

Well, chances are good that they were lanolized before shipping, so they'll be good for a couple weeks as-is.

Once you're having to rely on your own efforts to lanolize though, you'll know if they're not done properly. They'll feel wet on the outside, your shirt will be wet, they'll look wet, etc. They'll also smell like pee (when properly lanolized they shouldn't smell when dry). When you put them into a basin of warm water, you can see what parts are properly lanolized and which aren't, because the ones that are will stay dry, while the ones that aren't will soak up the water immediately. It's very illustrative.

Ditto what cristeen said.

When done right, they may be barely damp at times but should smell like wet wool if there's any smell at all (not pee).

You may find it best to lanolize 2-3 times within the first week or two of use just to get it well and evenly done, and then can cut back to monthly (or more, depending on how often you use your covers).

Well, I just put them on & they were fine. I do think I will try it again tho soon.

Has anyone tried the Imse Vimse Wool Cure? It seems so easy. No melting the lanolin first.

And, when poop gets on a wool cover you still just hand wash it out. Is that right?

I use the imse vimse woolcure. It's pretty nice and easy to use, I picked it up based on good recommendations - I use it as a heavier lanolin treatment/wash and do other washing with kookaburra woolwash (which is especially nice as it doesn't require rinsing out).

When we get poop on a wool cover, I take it over to the sink and scrub it off with a sliver of kissmyface olive oil soap (your hands, a rag, or woolwash bar would do the job too - just don't rub the cover against itself too much).
