Massaging breast pump??

Thread Starter
Looking for recommendations on breast pumps that use massage to draw out milk. I used a Medela Pump in Style (suction only) with DS for over a year (he's now 27 months and still nursing several times a day... and night...), but I had trouble pumping. Once I (finally) adjusted to the discomfort of the suction, on a rare good day, I'd get 5 oz. total in the morning pumping and maybe 2oz in the afternoon. Most days were more like 5oz total for the whole day. I know, that's probably normal, but pumping just never did feel "right" iykwim.

We're TTC, and I'd like to look into the massging type that are out now. I've read some reviews, but have not heard any first-hand experience. I won't say that money is no object, but if I'd known that I was going to pump for over a year and that it would cause so much dispair, I would have invested in a more effictive one the first time around.

Any advice? Thanks!

I use an Avent Isis. Yeah, it's manual, but I get better output with that than any other pump I've used.

If you want to stick to a double electric, Medela sells personal shields that have the massaging action that will fit on a PIS.

I have an Avent Isis Duo Electric and it's worked nicely for me, though in retrospect, I could have saved some money and went with the single electric pump, since I pretty much only pump one side at a time. I don't really know how much of an effect the massaging insert things have with respect to output, but I do know I get the same number of ounces with the Isis as I did with the Medela Lactina I rented.

I always had to massage by hand while pumping, especially at the start of each session and near the end. It sounds like maybe the flanges were the wrong size for you (too small or too big). I have seen aftermarket massaging inserts sold to fit on the pumps that don't come with them.
