Homeschooling ?'s

HI all-
I've read through the other homeschooling thread but have some questions... We homeschool our ds who is almost eight ( 2nd grade). I'm interested in learning how I can incorporate Montessori into what we already do. We are quite eclectic- earthschooling, waldorf, and trying MBTP this year. I deliberately held off on most academics, but ds is gifted and I think this might help him with focus and meet his need for information!
What do I start with for a child this age? Are the new guides good? Will I need to purchase tons of materials( isf so, I'm out
Can anyone offer advice? Has anyone else done this?
When ds was little, we did some practical life activities but that's about it. On the plus side, we have a great homeschool space, and I am very organized. Thanks in advance for any help!

I am just trying to figure this out also. I recently borrowed from my library, 'how to raise an amazing child the montessori way' by tim seldin. I am finding it to be a very straightforward starting point. it is not in depth just, grazes the surface of every area without a lot of useless words (so again, straight forward ). I had a lot of the same questions you did and it is really clearing my head on this! He also gives a lot of ideas on how to make a lot of your own materials. From what I have learned so far is montessori is not based on materials. you can do it with very little if you are creative.
