mid-season crops to plant?

So, some of my attempts in this year's veggie garden have failed (rabbits ate the beans, the zucchini died, and the cabbage isn't doing much.) The tomatoes look great, the salad greens are doing well, the herbs are amazing, but I have some openings!

We should have at least 10 more weeks of growing season... what can I plant? We eat salad, but it's quite hot now and I'm not sure how various greens would do in the sun - I currently have them planted in a shadier bed. There aren't a lot of veggies and herbs left in the nurseries, so it would probably have to be from seed.

Any suggestions welcome!

I just planted beans this week and they've emerged already! You can also get ready for a fall garden -- think about broccoli, chard, beets, carrots, kale, lettuce.
