LOVING Connor's iSense!

LOVING it! Which is great, obviously. But also kicking myself just a little for not pushing for this sooner. I have been all over his ENT and Audiologist to do *something* for him, we've gone around and around, debating whether a traditional hearing aid would be appropriate for him, maybe he's a candidate for a BAHA (softbanded, not implanted), then I found the EduLink (the predecessor to the iSense) and asked about that months ago (gosh, probably a year ago!) I finally put my foot down in early June, scheduled a "sit down and talk seriously about our options" appt with his ENT, and we decided to do the EduLink. Of course the EduLink is no longer made, but the iSense is the replacement, so that's what he got.

LOVING it!

He wears it with no problem! (although we are having trouble keeping it in his ear canal because of his atresia, working with the Audiologist to figure out what to do about that).

He will tell me when it's not on!

He is learning how to locate sound, which is challenging since he wears the iSense in his right ear, but I might be talking to him from his left side, or behind him, etc.

He had his first speech therapy session with his iSense this morning (has had it for a week now, this was his first session with it) and the therapist was thrilled with it! She said that he was focussing easier, listening easier, attempting more sounds, etc.

We still have no idea if insurance is going to pay for it, it will take a while for the claim to process through (they refused to give a predetermination ) but my husband and I have come to the conclusion that if insurance denies it, we're going to keep it anyway and find other ways to pay for it. It's obviously helping him, so it's worth it.

I'm a happy mama, with a happy kid!

Hooray! What I like about DD's FM is that outdoor activities are less exhausting for me. I can just speak into the mike, "Turn around and look at me," rather than always running up next to her.

Isn't it nice when you pursue something for your kid and it works? Good for you!
