Current Toddler Fixations?

Lawn care. My 2.5 year old DS is obsessed with mowers ("mambos"), trimmers ("dumbos") & leaf blowers ("blow.")

He can stand in the lawn care aisle at a Home Depot for a lifetime just looking/staring at weed whackers.

One day he was walking around the house growling. I said, "Oooooh, what animal are you today?"

"Dumbo," was his response.

And he wasn't referring to the loveable Disney elephant.

Usually these fixations have a short lifetime. But we are going on at least 4 or 5 months like this. It's hilarious.

My son is fascinated with the lawn mower as well. He calls is the law mowr. We have a robomower and he likes to stare out the window and watch it. Everytime we go in the garage to get in the car he calls out law mowr since it stays in the garage.

Drawing. She constantly wants to draw and threw a huge tantrum when I finally took away the crayons tonight. She also makes requests for me to draw things too, her favorites being Dora and a "Big O!" because apparently the letter O can never be big enough!

Oh, and trains. There's a train that you can see if you open our bedroom window, which doesn't help matters either...

Vacuums, even pictures of vaccums in the store ads in the paper.

Motorbikes. She'll race around the house on a broomstick while saying "motorbike! motorbike!" in a perky voice.

Watering cans - apparently they're just fantastic.

Clothes of all kinds.

Nails (the kind you hammer).

Toilet brushes - apparently those are just fantastic too.

airplanes, wheels, trucks/cars/bikes- ok, basically anything that goes zoom, shapes (circles and squares mostly, he points them out everywhere).

Diggers, dump trucks, wheel loaders, skid steers, etc... all Caterpillar brand, of course! Thank goodness there is so much construction around the city right now! He is in heaven!

Headlamps. We cosleep so DH and I often sit up in bed after DS has fallen asleep and read magazines or books with camping headlamps. We had to buy one for DS, because he was wearing ours all over the house, and now we read bedtime stories with the lights out and our headlamps on.

Our neighbor, Pete. He's an elderly man who sits and smokes on his porch across the street with his cat, Angel. When DS rides his trike down the sidewalk, Pete cheers him on. Now, whenever we drive past his house, he says, "where's Pete?" and when we say bedtime prayers, he makes sure that we include Pete and Angel.

His penis. It's intact, but he just figured out how to get it out of the "wrapper."

Thomas the Tank Engine. Still.

Kipper the Dog.

Playing in water. It's been a hot summer. Lots of water.

My DS is 19 months old and he's really into cars, trucks (real and toy), bubbles, getting his own water in a cup, flipping light switches, pressing buttons, stacking blocks, Mr. Potato Head, playing in the water and sand, and being naked!

"Why" is the big thing around here lately.
