Ikea train set - anyone tried it?

DS is so into trains now, but many sets are so expensive. I can get the whole Ikea set for under $30. Its small tho, but cute.

Anyone try it?

We love it. It's compatible with most other wooden sets, fair quality, and cute. But then, there are a grand total of four Ikea toys we don't have (not including stuffed animals and furniture, of course).

yeah it's great. it fits with brio and thomas so if you expand or find other pieces at the thrift store/craigslist they all fit together. Frankly I think it's just as good as the more expensive ones.

We are very happy with our Ikea sets. Simple, but perfect. Especially for my young (25 months old) toddler. I love that we can eventually add to them with more complex pieces if her interest stays high.

my favorite thing is that you can "pop" out the connector (not easy, but doable) and create female/female and male/male track pieces.

Our original set is incomplete and being able to rig the pieces of the IKEA set to fit the other set has restored my faith in my engineering abilities

We also have the extra train which has turned out to be kind of superfluous, unless your child is old enough to make both a freight and passenger train.

ETA: Ikea sells both a train set and a separate train, we have both.

I bought it for Micah for his 2nd Christmas when he was 20 months old. It is still one of his favorite toys a year and a half later, and we have had no problems with it at all!

So cool! I am definitely getting it then.

I only saw I train set, but no separate train like Faliciagayle said thay have. I will have to look more closely or online.

Good to hear it can be used with other sets too
