New TV Free Family and a ?

Hi Mamas! As of Monday we plan to turn off the TV for a week, as a TV free trial. I would like it to continue past the week point. However, for my eight year old, a week is understandable and reachable. We would like to go media free as DS has very SID/maybe mild aspie and gets overstimulated very easily. This inturn effect his behavior and outlook on life. Transitions are really hard around here. My question is that in a case like this, do you sugges we cut ALL media on Monday, or simply cut TV and computer and all him time with his iPod or DS at first?
Thanks much!

It really depends what you want to achieve. What's your ideal world? No tv, but some other devices? No ipod or ds but limited TV? Nothing at all?

We don't have a TV and my boys don't have any electronic entertainment devices (they'd be on them all the time which I don't want) but we do have a weekly movie (DVD on the computer) and they earn screen time during the week to use on computer games on the weekend. That's my comfort level. What is yours?

If transitions are hard then I would keep one or two things. Like if he likes the Ipod then keep that. If you think that just going cold turkey is better then do that.

If the week goes well then you can keep going with it. I would make sure that you have things planned for the "TV" time. The quiet may be a hard thing for someone used to stimulation.

I hope that helps. Happy TV free.
