I am hoping one of you wonderful ladies might have some ideas or know a direction to point me. I am currently nursing my 5 month old baby and we've been nursing from the beginning. This is my second time nursing a child but man it's been different!

My baby and I had a very hard time to start off with because he was extremely tongue tied and it wasn't caught till he was several days old and had started to lose a lot of weight. So, the first 2 weeks we had to supplement and I rented a hospital grade pump to build my supply. By the end of the first month we were doing great and I returned the pump. For the first several months we had to nurse using a shield because it was the only way he could nurse. I was alright with that I was just happy we had managed to nurse when the pedi (we since switched to a better more supportive doc) thought I should just use formula.

Now, at 5 months I have a huge problem. About 2.5 days ago my supply almost tripled. My baby hasn't changed his eating habits at all and is still eating about every 2.5/3 hours during the day and about 3/4 hours at night. However, now I am at the point that every 1.5/2 hours I am painfully engorged. I talking my breast are so full of milk that they are rock hard and it is extremely painful. They are so full that it makes it very hard for my baby to nurse because the let-down is so heavy that he starts to choke on the milk.

I have no clue what to do or what caused this sudden increase in my supply. Any thoughts? Any ideas on what I can do to decrease it make to what was working for us?
