Can some one point me to a good direction on teaching letter pairs-ones like ch, ow, ou, ei etc. Ds is only 5, but when he sees a word, he wants to sound it out, and I tell him some are in pairs like "th" and together they always make that sound. I know there are programs to teach this, I just don't know them. "Th" was easy for him to learn, because it's usually at the end of a story or start of a sentence.

ABeCeDarian http://www.abcdrp.com/ teaches them too--the ones in which two letters are responsible for a single sound. Some programs try to say that Br is a letter team, but of course you can hear the B and the R. Whereas Th is a true letter team because you have one sound that comes out, not a T and an H, but /th/.
Also, at the back of the book "reading reflex" there is a great chart of them all. You can get that book from the library.
