Didn't cry when getting a shot

We are doing delayed/selective vaccinations and DD (~6 1/2 months) got one shot on Tuesday. She has had 3 others on different occasions and has cried every time. It doesn't take long for her to get over it, she nurses right away and is fine. She has never had a reaction at all. This time she didn't cry at all....like, didn't even flinch. It was odd. It was a sub doctor as our GP is on vacation. Could she have done it "wrong" and that's why it didn't hurt?

I'm not terribly concerned but it was...odd.

Which vaccine was it? Maybe it was one not known to hurt as much. Because the needle really isn't the bad part (IMO), it's the stuff IN the needle, it sometimes burns or stings. Has she had this vax before?

We have one nurse at our practice who is so incredibly gentle that I can barely feel the needle going in if I'm looking away. If your baby wasn't anxious about a shot, and (like the PP said) the particular vax wasn't one that burns, I wouldn't consider her lack of reaction to be abnormal.

We do selective/delayed vax and my 4 mo old has been incredibly minimally bothered by shots so far. Imo, her personality is totally different than our older daughter (also s/d vaxes - but anything would leave her clingy and anxious for a few days afterward). I doubt it was done "wrong" - some people have a gentler hand with injections.

Some nurses/doctors seem to be better at giving shots than others, imo. I'd try to see the sub again for the next shot!

My DD2 has sometimes not cried for a shot, if it's not one where the vaccine itself stings/burns. When she's had two done, my doc will do the non-painful one first.

All of my kids had some vaxes as infants, while nursing or using a paci, and only one of them (DS) really reacted all that much, and he cried mostly about me restraining his leg than he did about the actual puncture. If you're fortunate, you get a nurse who's experienced at giving injections to small children, and it's over so fast baby never really feels much, especially if the vax isn't one that burns going in.

It was DTaP-IPV-HIB. She had it once before (at 4 months) but with one other - that was the only time we did 2 together and haven't since. I never thought about the pain actually being the burning - good point!

My oldest is fully vaxed and I remember, around 6 months old, maybe a little younger, she just quit being bothered by the shots at all. They just didn't phase her.

My younger one is up to date through 9 months, every one of them has bugged her, but she recently had a pin poke to test iron levels and she totally didn't even notice. In fact, the band aid had more of an effect on her.

Mine didn't cry for this shot at 6 months either. He cried minimally for the pneumococcal vaccine, but it was more of an annoyed cry than a pain cry.

The 4 month vaccinations were the worst.
