Toddler Nursing While Pregnant

Not sure if this goes here or in pregnancy but....

I've just gotten a BFP and immediately started wondering how this might impact my toddler's nursing. We nightweaned a month or so ago but he does still nurse 5ish times a day. He's almost 19 months old.

I'm totally fine continuing at this point (although it's early and I realize that might change) and I'm open to tandem nursing. My main concern is how this will affect him nutritionally since we don't do cow's milk or any other milk. He does get plenty of other dairy and eats fairly well for a toddler; is he going to need something else as my milk decreases (guessing that it's likely to)?

I guess I've been waffling on whether or not to start cow's milk anyway but haven't seen a need up to this point. Curious as to what others have done.

I could have written this post except DS is 3! I posted my question in pregnancy board.
Either way, I hope we get our question answered! Check my post on the pregnancy board if you like!

Yup - I'm on the bump! Who are you? I'll check out your post on pregnancy.

At 19mo old your son should be fine. His appetite may increase if your production slows down but I'm sure he'll adjust accordingly at meal times.

I've never been one to pour out glasses of milk for my kiddos on a regular basis, we do eat a lot of cheese and some yogurt. You can start cows milk if you want but if he is already eating other dairy I don't really think you're missing anything.

See you in the Due Date Club for April on here! I think we need to get the book Adventures in Tandem Nursing. Can you believe my DS is 3 and still doing this? Crazy! Fortunately, I have a friend who did the same so I know I'm not alone!

GL!!! and Congrats!!

If he has three servings of dairy, then he would be fine even if your supply completely disappeared! Of course, there are other ways to get calcium, protein and fat other than dairy but yogurt and cheese are easy ways. I still limit the amount of cow's milk my kids drink - and the only ones who drink it are 4 and 7. (And the 7 year old no longer nurses). I am tandeming the two younger kids and did tandem the first two. (With middle child being in both pairs). My supply dries up to not enough to swallow when I get pg. But if your kids like yogurt and cheese, then it's pretty easy!

I don't have as much knowledge as the other posters, but wanted to say hey and I live in your town! Love to see other mamas in the area.

Milk from another animal isn't mandatory (humans are the only species who seek out milk from other animals). Cow's milk is just a good source of calcium and vitamin D, which are in many other foods as well. I've nursed two dairy-free kids through pregnancy and never had to worry about adding any sort of milk.
