fun/cute ways to show dad how to GD?

hello!

my dh is so wonderful, but soooo old school and stubborn

i was thinking maybe cute little notecards with short sayings or something to reinforce GD to put in his lunch box? my dh is such a manly man with a very short attention span for anything that isnt PS3, music or work related (electrician) he will NOT read a whole book or pay much attention to a whole essay/article

he tries to do what i do, but i want him to know WHY i do what i do ... and i dont want to lecture

any ideas?

I'm not sure how leaving parenting tips in a lunch box wouldn't come across as a lecture.

I know there is an Unconditional Parenting video and Hold on To Your Kids also has a video series (although it is super expensive.) Maybe you can watch it together. You could also look into parenting workshops or parenting coaches in your local community.

It is sad that reading up on parenting is not considered manly.

well the lunchbox thing - i figured cuz i used to leave him little notes like how much i loved him, thanks for working so hard, blah blah blah i was thinking something really short, like one sentence, with hearts and flowers and other crap to make it seem not so .... serious? (question mark intended.) i think he thinks "parenting advice" is silly, esp since he thinks his family did just fine w/o books. so i want something really light hearted and fun and inspirational

and i never meant that being manly meant not reading parenting books. i was just describing my dh. if he was a sensitive, open minded man, i would have stated *that*.



i just need some ideas!!! i only have the lunchbox thing going for me.

I have a list on the fridge about parenting that I told him was for me. Ican't imagine that he hasn't looked it altleast a little, I mean he does open the fridge You could use something like this: http://wikiparenting.parentsconnect....scipline_Ideas

My DH is not a reader or analyzer although I've tried.

So mostly what I do is decide on the approach for given circumstances and tell DH how we're doing it. He mostly goes along b/c we did watch the UP dvd together so our core philosophy is in agreement.

You would probably have more luck watching the UP dvd b/c you can do it together and it sparks some good conversation about discipline.

I have thought about posting notes on how to handle things as a reminder for me and DH. I have actually done a few like that for sitters on occasion.

MY DBF is a lot like your DH, sounds like, and I pretty much ask him what he thinks about the situation (with the kids) and he says "well, he needs a spanking!" and I say "that's one idea, OR....." and then tell him whatever GD plan that I plan on actually using and he thinks I'm super smart and groovy and crunchy.

It's a little manipulative but I keep hoping one day I'll ask him what he thinks and he'll tell me something awesome and enlightened... ( but im not holding m¥ breath)

I like the lunchbox idea btw - not every day– maybe for every 3 love notes from you, he gets a "love note" from the kiddo about GD.
