Hip/Leg/Pelvic pain... - Page 2

Oh! Also, some chiros will have special programs for patients without insurance or who simply want to pay cash. It can end up making it about the same price as MY insurance policy does. You may check around and see if you can find someone who has experience AND can give you a good deal that won't break the bank. Massage therapy is really good, too. I see a woman who works at the local Whole Foods, and pay $1/minute. Hopefully there are some good options where you are, too!

ohhh that does feel good! and right where the pain is exactly. i went swimming today (well, rested on some noodles in the pool) and that felt great. will try some ice. what about heat? like a bath? or is that opposite of what I need to do? I found out that the chiro my MW (who i still haven't met with yet, my apt is in 2 weeks!) sends her clients to is only $25 a session, so if I can't help the pain with home-remedies I will be seeing him.

is there any other damage I can cause, other than pain to myself, if I overdo it? I am planning to take it easy as much as I can, but with a 2 year old that is kind of hard to do..

Heat can feel really good, but if there is inflammation, it can actually make it worse. Alternating heat and ice is good, though. Heat increases blood flow which can speed healing, if that's what it needs.

That's great that the chiro is so reasonably priced! I don't know of any long-term or permanent pain that can be caused, but definitely just listen to your body and take it easy as much as you can. Arnica massage oil could help, too.

Thanks so much for all of your help Heather!! If it gets much worse/unmanagable I will call my MW even though I still have 2 weeks until my apt with her. She has been great so far talking with me through several other issues already..

How often would I need to see the chiro? If I could go maybe every other week at most I think we could swing that...

How often you go *really* varies. It's helpful to go more often at first to get it "set", if you will, but everyone's needs will be different. I won't tell you I used to go 3x/wk!! These days, I go every 7-10 days, but I haven't been able to go in the last month or so and am coping (though I do really need to get in and will feel MUCH better if I do!). Do what you can and see if they can recommend things to do at home in the meanwhile. My chiro is great about suggesting exercises and stretches and take-home things.
