how many oz. per pumping session?

I just purchased a pump (medela swing) and I'm wondering what is an average amount to pump at a time.
I've gotten only between 2-3 oz. This doesn't seem like much. My son is 9.5mos old so I'm guessing I would need to pump 3 times to get one feeding - pls correct me if I'm mistaken.
I've also been feeding him 2 times on one side and then pumping the other side. Any other tips?

The average woman pumps .5-2oz. per session, so between 2-3oz. is awesome, especially as you are not used to pumping!

6-9oz. per feeding is way too much for most babies.

I generally get 3 oz. total per pumping session and I pump every 2 hours when I'm at work. DS usually takes a 3 oz. bottle every 3 hours so I am currently producing more per day than he eats. He would like to suck for longer than that sometimes so will take a paci but is satisfied with 3 oz. and plays/sleeps happily until his next feeding.

I added in an extra pump session every day when DS takes his first nap. That way it's been at least an hour since he's eaten so I get a decent amount of milk and now my body is used to pumping at that time of the morning so I get a full 3 oz. It was a good way to start getting used to pumping and that's still the "extra" bottle that I produce every day.

Thank you.
I was feeling discouraged about the amount I was pumping but it sounds like I'm on track. Also glad to hear I don't need to pump as many times for a feeding.

I rarely get more than 3 oz total in one session. And after the pumping is done, I hand express a bit more directly into the bottle because the pump doesn't get a ton out. Also, my 7.5 month old DD eats nurses every 2-3 hours and rarely on more than one side, so I'm guessing about 3 oz a sitting. I always offer her the other side, but she's usually not interested so that tells me she is full. The exceptions are if she hasn't nursed in 3-4 hours. In the morning and evenings she will just nurse again like 30-60 later for her cluster feeds.

As I understand it, breastfed babies don't increase the amount they need at each feeding as they get older the same way formula-fed babies do. About an ounce per hour that you plan to be away from the baby is the rule of thumb I've heard.

It really depends on the time of day as for how much I get, and I also have one slacker side and one better-producing side. I got 5 ounces from Righty three days ago at 8am, 2ounces from Lefty two days ago at 8am, 4 ounces from Righty yesterday at 9am, and only about an ounce from Lefty today since I didn't pump until noon.

You can also massage/compress the boob with your other hand while you're pumping to get a little more.

Depends on the time of day. I've been pumping twice a day at work since I returned (FT) in March and I get 8-11 oz usually at my morning pump (11am) and 4-7 oz in the afternoon (3pm). Although, I've had some insane pump sessions this past week (12-15 oz!) during my morning pump. But that was following a weekend where my LO had a cold and just wanted to nurse alllllllll night. Overall, I bring home 14-16 oz each day...this week its been 16-20 oz. DD is 8 months.
