Stumped. My 3 yr old DD has had a cough for over 6 weeks. It had been kind of junky like you'd feel like clearing your throat for her when she'd cough. If upset, her cry would sound tight when breathing in like she was sucking in air. Then she got pink-eye & an ear infection and was put on Zithromax. 10 days into it she got hives for 4 days (possible allergic reaction). Took her back in because the cough was still there a week later. X-ray showed that her esophagus is swollen lower as it would be with croup but my kids have had croup and she doesn't have that. Ped put her on Omnicef for possible sinus infection causing post-nasal drip causing the swelling. 1st week her symptoms got better. Then, Th/Fri morning she woke to a little bit of green goop in her eyes (only first thing in the morning) and on Th complained of her throat hurting. Friday night she woke in the night crying about her throat hurting (this is what she'd been doing before) so I gave her ibuprofen. All day today she's complained, sometimes in tears. I've given her both tylenol and ibuprofen but she still woke about 3 hrs after going to bed crying of her throat hurting. She's starting to sound a little hoarse and has a small bit of a dry cough. She's also got a tad bit of a clear runny nose and some sneezing. I have no idea what's going on. She still has a couple days of the antibiotic left but obviously it's not helping at this point. I'll call the ped on Monday and I'm thinking of requesting another x-ray to see if the swelling has gone down and have them do a cbc to see if there's anything unusual there. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever had this or has any ideas as to what it might be. I've been avoiding allergy meds the last week just in case they do some allergy testing-not sure if it could be allergies or not but figured I'd play it cautious in case they go down that road.
