Does Montessori discourage television (as in being TV-free)? If so, what about programs about real life animals? Thanks!

Not that I've ever heard of, beyond the usual "limit how much TV your kids get" that just about everyone recommends officially.

Maria Montessori lived well before the days of television, so I don't think there is anything specific about it in her philosophy. Her method is very much hands on and experiencing to learn. We are not tv free, but we try to limit tv exposure (even before I discovered Montessori) and keep the shows educational.

Our school advises minimal TV. As in staying within the AAP guidlines.

I have heard they do not encourage tv but, if you feel a show is of value to your child than sit and watch it with them while you talk about it with them.

During school year we watch virtually no television and videos, etc (well, we never watch real, commercial tv or cable, just netflix and library movies).

But our school has no official policy on it or anything.
