Nighttime Wetting

My DS is a little under 3 weeks old and pretty much every night he pees through all of his clothes. At least once. I don't really care about having to change him all that much since its not that big of a deal, but he's so upset about being all wet that I feel bad for him (I mean, I'd be upset too if I was wet up to my armpits when I woke up!). We're using Huggies, new born size (last week he was 8lbs10oz and 20 3/4inches) because I'm really not ready for the whole full-time cloth diaper thing. However I was starting to wonder if cloth might be the answer to our nighttime problem.

If it helps, he's sleeping about 3-4 hours at a stretch, so I need something that will hold in that much liquid. He's a bigtime pee-er, he only poops once a day.

Got any suggestions?

You could try the next size up, and/or use a cloth diaper cover over the disposable. We use cloth 95% of the time, but I still use a diaper cover over 'sposies just in case of leaks.

there is not much difference from washing all the clothing and bedding that is peed vs. a cloth diaper. if you have cloth diapers i would say it is the better option due to you being able to add fillers to hold more pee and you can add a stay dry liner and a waterproof cover.

do we have the same baby? lol. we were using sposies for outings and night, but he pees thru the sposies w alarming frequency. cloth seems to work better but would love to ear about nighttime cd options.

Hands down, my favorite CDs are FuzziBunz. We use the Perfect Size and the One Size, and they are fantastic! I would probably recommend trying the OS first, because they'll fit your LO from birth to potty training (7 lbs - 35 lbs+). They're super adjustable and obviously adorable, but they also have a 4 layer insert which is highly absorbent. Sometimes I'll use a hemp doubler at night, but she's 9 mos old and goes a lot longer than 3-4 hours before waking to nurse. You could probably get away with just the diaper itself without any doublers. And can I ask why you don't want to CD full time yet?

I actually wasn't planning on CD'ing at all! I thought sposies would be just fine, and then Dh and I started looking into a diaper service in a few weeks. Then the big peeing problem came up and I've been so unhappy with sposies that I've started to reconsider my thoughts on cloth. I don't know that I want to wash a whole days worth of diapers (hence the service) but I could do a whole night's worth I think, especially since they're mostly pee (my LO only pees at night, he poops in the morning). Who knows, if it's not so bad I could do it full time.

I was thinking of the FuzziBuns. I don't know why, but that was sort of what I had in mind. I guess I'd need around 5 to start out with, right?

if you know when poop is gonna happen you can look in to ECing. this would mean few or no pooed diapers at all.

i must say that i CD'ed 2 dc as a single mom using a building washing and dryer. it is no big deal really i would do one wash every few days. i would carry the bucket to the machine and dump in or carry a diaperpail liner to the machine dump in the machine and wash bag with the load. i would only used 5ml of dawn dish soap and pop in to the dryer. if you are using cloth wipes they get dumped in the pail to be washed.

I'd say 5 should be plenty to get your LO through the night, if that's the only time you're going to use them. I CD full time and have managed to do just fine with 15. And honestly, washing them is super easy! You don't have to rinse the poopy ones before you put them in the wash. If there is solid poop in the diaper, you just shake what you can into the toilet, then put the diapers and inserts right into the wash. I do all of mine at the same time in one load every night, no muss no fuss!
