Can I buy a new tv that isn't high definition?

I am confused about this! I am getting tv installed tomorrow via a satellite dish (because I live outside a cable network).
I went to buy a tv today and all the tvs are high definition. when we got it home and tried a dvd in it it was just too bright and too defined and too colored for my eyes.
I much prefer the non high definition.
But when I went to look even online for what I guess is called standard definition tv's, I couldn't find anything.

Am I stuck with watching only in HD or how to I find a standard tv that is new (or good quality used)
or is it possible to turn off the hd on an hdtv?

Thanks

You can only buy HD TV's new but it doesn't have to be fully HD. Also, you should be able to adjust colour and brightness even on HDTVs. I am guessing the TV has a native definition of 1080? It might be worth checking out TVs that don't have that as their native definition.

I know what you mean. We bought a new TV and DH loves it but I'd prefer the old one. That said, if you live anywhere near me you're welcome to come take our old one. There's nothing wrong with it (other than the fact that it's not a 46-inch HD flatscreen).
