Gagging, spitting, making herself throw up and screaming bloody murder! It sounds like your baby is telling you she isn't ready. I think her reaction is more important than the doctors. Forcing the issue seems cruel. Get a new ped or ignore the advice!

At that age my son was eating very little any solids. I would give him some and a little (like, a tiny, tiny bit) might make it into his mouth, but that's it. I would feed him yogurt because he loved it and would get frustrated trying to feed himself, but that's it. I left everything else up to him. Your dd's reaction sounds like this is a really stressful situation. I would relax on the solids and follow her lead.

My DS is just 9 months old, too. He certainly doesn't eat as much as 2-3 jars of puree per day! In fact, he's been teething pretty hard (he's popped out 4 teeth in 2 weeks) so the last two weeks he hasn't really wanted much for solids, so mostly he's just been nursing.

My DD didn't either... I don't think she ever ate a Stage 2 jar of anything, not even once! the first time she showed interest in anything other than Puffs and purees was at 10 months -- at Thanksgiving dinner. I remember her eating crackers and bits of turkey and I was amazed. She didn't even eat 1 regular solid meal per day until like 11 months and wasn't eating 3 per day until more like 15 months. But she got plenty of breastmilk, so it's not like she was starving. On the flip side, she was the least picky toddler eater I know. She pretty much eats anything nowdays.
