My almost 3yo is peeing side ways?

My intact DS just got potty trained. The first couple of times I took him pee, it would be straight out the side and on the floor. It is about at a 90* angle. The opening is pointing to the side also. I am trying to teach him to point it down and at an angle to not make a mess everywhere.
But I have never seen a boy pee to the side as much as my little guy is? I know that most men/ boys don't be totally straight, but this is like the shape of an "L". Is it anything to be concerned about?

This is normal - messy, but not pathological, and only temporary. As an intact boy's foreskin starts to separate from the glans, sometimes the foreskin opening can lie over the urinary outlet with differential tension on one side or another. The urine coming out hits the tighter lip of the foreskin outlet and is deflected to the other side. This will pass as the foreskin outlet becomes more evenly separated and looser. You might suggest he slightly retract when urinating to align the foreskin outlet with the urinary opening (if it is loose enough and it doesn't hurt him - the foreskin should not be forcibly retracted ever).

If the retracting that Glongley suggested doesn't work out he can also try pushing it forward.

You can use floating breakfast cereal (Cheerios, fuitloops, etc) as targets in the toilet to improve his aim. Just throw a few into the water and tell him to sink them.

This makes sense! I didn't think of it before, nor have I heard anything about it. Thanks to both of you for your comments.
DS is actually afraid to stand up and pee So I am not gonna force the issue. But when he does stand up...one day... I will do the cheerio trick.

My ds taught his self to actually pull the foreskin out away from his body so that his stream went straight. Looks odd but it sure does the trick and like pp said it will pass as he becomes older and more retractable.
