So scared!!! Just had a big bout of diarrhea. :(

I am sooooo scared right now.... I just had a big bout of diarrhea, and I NEVER have diarrhea (unlike my DH who has it almost every other day of his life). I have a home doppler and just listened to baby's hb and it was in the high 140's/low 150's - a little lower than normal but still good, right?

PLEASE tell me if you had diarrhea and all was fine! I have no idea why it happened! I do not feel sick at all. No flu symptoms, etc.

I am sitting here freaking out, thinking I might have listeria or toxo or something omg! Please someone calm me down... I tried calling my doc's answering service and they don't have it on. I'm so scared!

Honey, you need to get your major anxiety under control... diarrhea is a somewhat normal function of the human body. I had it in the early days with my daughter and a few times with this one. It's not hugely indicative of a food borne illness or anything dangerous. Your anxiety is sky high and that is far more dangerous to you than anything you could possibly worry about. Seriously.

I have had diarrhea for weeks now with this pregnancy. Seems to be coming out that way instead of vomit.

I would really recommend you talking to your OB or midwife about your anxiety.

I have read a few of your threads and I can understand living with anxiety but the level that you are at is not good for you or the baby. I would think that the anxiety and stress you are under is probably the cause of the diarhhea, especially since you don't feel sick.
Please consider talking to your MW or OB about your anxiety sooner rather than later.

I agree with the others, diarrhea is not something to worry about in and of itself. I don't know your history at all, but I wish you the very best. I hope your mw can help put your mind at ease.

I know I have anxiety, and I promise I'll talk to someone about it. But this isn't normal for me... also I'm not too early anymore, I'll be 14 weeks on Tues.

I'm so scared.

I'm UP'ing this time... and really, sometimes your body just flushes. I would say that at 14 weeks you are entering the second tri and the reason behind your diarrhea would be the change in your hormones.

I have anxiety, too, but not like this... you really need to focus on calming yourself down. If you aren't feeling sick and just have diarrhea you are fine. Your body's reaction to the hormones is different every time... and really what are you going to do if you do have listeria or toxo? You'll seek treatment, right? It's not a guaranteed that you will have 'dire consequences' if you contract a food borne illness so what is the point of worrying about something you can't control?? Really, you can't control what happens... you can control your reaction to the anxiety, though. Get yourself some rescue remedy and dose up on it when you start to feel like you are panicking, practice your breathing and relaxation techniques. Let it go because holding onto it will do far more harm in the long term than you realize.

Pregnancy can make a person's body do strange things.

Diarrhea in pregnancy is not at all unusual. It's also true that your body can react to things it might not otherwise because of the lowered immune response in pregnancy. I've had severe diarrhea from food poisoning while pg, with absolutely no ill effects to the baby.

Remember that our bodies do ALL SORTS of unusual things during pregnancy. Most of us do not throw up on any regular basis when non-pg. And, yet, it's *entirely* normal in pregnancy as a reaction to hormones and other bodily changes. If I were to throw up as much as I do in pregnancy without being pregnant, I'd be seriously sick. That doesn't mean it's a problem NOW, though.

Listeria and toxoplasmosis are not at all common, even if some tout them as big concerns. Stay hydrated, rest up, take some probiotics, and take a warm bath to help you relax.

I understand with your history how it would be easy to freak out about anything that is not normal for your body. But pregnancy is not the norm for a body, so it is going to act differently.

With my first 3 i had constipation. It was awful. And i had figured that's how my body handled pregnancy. Then much to my dismay i had a horrible bout of diarrhea with my last pregnancy, i couldn't figure out why and wondered what the heck was wrong with me. But it passed and ds is now 7 weeks old.

Hugs and calming vibes. Every pregnancy is different and many things can happen.

I've had food poisoning with both my pregnancies. I knew that's what it was because dh had some symptoms too...
Both times, it turned out fine. Ds1 is now 2y8m and ds2 should be here any day now I did call my OB's office both times, and they basically told me baby is in the uterus, and my food problems are in the stomach...so nothing to do.

If you're an anxious person, being pregnant and having kids makes you much more anxious. I don't think I was anxious until I had ds1, and then I developed horrible stomach issues (whereas I could eat ANYTHING before), and I strongly believe that the anxiety is what caused it. Keep in mind, that as you get older, your anxiety is going to affect your body more rather than less.
Also, your baby's hb sounds perfectly fine. Mine has been in the 140's the whole pregnancy.

Apart from the diarrhea, is there anything you're worrying about right now? The diarrhea could've have been from your worrying about something else or just normal pregnancy hormonal changes (that happen at any time, not just first trimester).

I'm 22 weeks and had a huge blow out the other day. It just happens sometimes.

Please please get some help for yourself. You are so scared all the time. That's no way to live.

I'm a hair shy of 36 weeks and I have diarrhea constantly. I've been up for the past several hours with it. Really, it's not a big deal. It's inconvenient (oh my poor heiny) but it's not severely harmful.

Really chica, talk to your doctor about anxiety. I've also had several miscarriages. Pooping never triggered one, I promise.

... I've been told by my midwife that the constant changing of hormones can really wreak havoc on your body, particularly your digestive system. YOU ARE PREGNANT, and there's lots of changes going on in your body right now. It would be strange if your body WASN'T doing some things that are "out of the ordinary for you."

Have had several bouts of diarrhea during this pg, and baby is perfect fine.

Try to be calm, and (may I suggest?) reading/listening to some pregnancy affirmations? I highly recommend Hypnobabies. There is a fantastic script included to listen to on a daily basis that contains positive affirmations for a calm, fear-free pregnancy.

Diarrhea is totally normal in pregnancy. So is constipation. Double the fun :P

I understand why you're fearful and anxious, but PLEASE see someone about your anxiety as soon as possible. Freaking out over every little thing like this is not good for you or your baby.

The day I found out I was pregnant with my second, I was suffering from food poisoning, so you can imagine what sort of mess I was with my digestive system. My second is now 2.5 years old, so it obviously didn't bother him.

A lot of women have diarrhea during pregnancy. On the plus side, without feeling like you have to throw up everything, keeping hydrated is a lot easier.

I had it from the time I got BFP until probably 12 weeks. I went on zofran at 7 weeks, so 5 weeks after that it was from overdose of magnesium to counteract the zofran constipation. The 7 weeks before - I have no clue. MW just said hmmm...that's unusual. She was only concerned because I was vomiting also and not gaining weight. She was worried about dehydration for me, specifically. She would not worry normally.

A one time thing is nothing. Stress IS a big cause. I know people who would get it right before tests or after something stressful.

Worrying about it or what you eat, is going to make it worse. It can causes worse stomach upset, so please talk to someone about this - your doctor, a friend, a therapist.

I saw a therapist through my entire pregnancy last time, I had pregnancy induced anxiety/depression.

I had bad diarrhea (really bad) with my 3rd pregnancy that lasted for 1-2 days ... I was really sick, probably a stomach virus. The worst part was the dehyrdration that happened and caused some bad contractions (I was 32 weeks at the time). I'm sure it is fine ... call your dr. if you are worried, I did that and the nurse told me to drink plenty of fluids and keep my electrolytes up.
