try to calm down and relax. diahrea is a very comman thing and not somehting to be scared of just cause you are pregnant. the constant stress over little things will do you more harm then anything else.

Sorry, I didn't read all the replies, so sorry if this is a repeat, but...

If your husband has chronic diarrhea, he might want to consider the idea that he has a food allergy/intolerance. I had chronic diarrhea (in a cycle with constipation). Turned out to be multiple food intolerances. The constipation stopped when I cleared out dairy. When I went off soy & gluten, the diarrhea when away, too. Just something to consider.

As far as YOU: I'm sure you're fine! Drink lots of water and think about electrolyte balance - Emergen-C makes an electrolyte powder to add to your water... Or you could drink coconut water, which is a natural electrolyte. I hope you feel better soon.

If it helps, I go days w/o pooing and then it's diarrhea time. It sticks but it's totally normal. This is my 3rd pregnancy and it's totally normal.

If you're violently vomiting while sitting on the toilet having major poo, then it's time to worry - that's the classic sign of food poisoning.

I've read a few of your posts, too, and honey, you gotta chill. Talk to your health professional about seeing somebody and finding the root of your anxiety. I had anxiety for years but refused to take the meds (frankly, they suck, but that's just me) and once I figured out WHY, I was able to conquer it. You need to do this before you pass on your anxiety to your kids. It's not fair to them.

THANK YOU so much girls!!! Omg I don't know what I would do without this board, seriously! Prob have a nervous breakdown.

I haven't had anymore diarrhea today. The reason I got so worried is because I am usually constipated, pregnant or not... I go #2 maybe once every 3 days or so? Sometimes more. Last PG my MW told me that is not normal, but it really is my normal, you know? So yesterday I finally went #2 and (please forgive me if I gross anyone out but I don't know how else to desribe it) they were like hard pebbles, then last night I felt like I had to go again (strange for me to go twice in one day), and that's when I had the diarrhea. I kept thinking of everything I ate yesterday (bagel with cream cheese, veggie pizza, piece of corn on the cob which was prob a little too old b/c it had no taste, an apple and a 1/3 block of cheddar cheese, and a bottle of Carnation Instant Breakfast (vanilla). Do you think any of these things were the culprit?

My biggest fears are it being something that could hurt the baby. I know listeria is pretty rare. I was just tested for toxo a couple weeks ago (it was neg) and thought about asking to be tested again but I also feel like I am acting like a paranoid lunatic.

Thank you guys for sahring your diarrhea and poo stories. It really does help to hear about others that have had it and all was fine.

And I promise..... I will talk to my doc about my anxiety! I have always had a tendency to panic, even had 2 full-fledged panic attacks before I had kids. I also have OCD tendencies (used to be worse, even had minor rituals I had to do but I haven't had it like that in a while). It all got worse when my m/c's started happening, I do think there is a definite link.

Thank you again for your kind words and concern.. it means a lot!!

I think it's hormonal related... I was more prone to constipation with my first few for whatever reason. I also go a couple days in between bms. I occasionally get diarrhea and I've never seen it as something horribly bad but if I was vomiting and had the runs, I like would think that I was really sick. One bout of diarrhea does not equate to food poisoning, if you have food poisoning believe me... you'll know. And as many women have pointed out, you'll likely be just fine. You're in the second tri now, your chances of miscarriage are very, very minute at this point. Quit thinking on the what ifs and find some affirmations to empower yourself.

I am also an infrequent pooper but being pregnant has made it more regular and sometimes quite loose. No worries. I wanted to second the suggestion of taking some Rescue Remedy for your anxiety, it's natural and fine to take when pregnant and just kind of takes the edge off (for example, if your worries are keeping you awake, it has a nice way of just calming all those racing thoughts) I know a few women who swear by it for pregnancy-related anxiety, myself included. Good luck!!

I have had two bouts of diarrhea with this pregnancy. I believe both were from norovirus, but I can't be sure it could very well have been mild food poisoning. They both started with just not feeling well and having significant pain in my bellybutton. I do have a hernia there so that might be why it was so sensitive. I was also nauseated but didn't actually throw up. The first occurred in the second trimester and lasted 2 days. The last time just lasted overnight and it was a couple of weeks ago. I am now 1 day shy of 38 weeks. I never mentioned it to the doctor because by the time I had my appts. I was fine. I am not aware as others have said that isolated diarrhea is cause of real concern.

unfortunately, if it is food related, it could be from 3-4 days ago even up to 7 days. My daughter has a soy sensitivity and it takes 7 days for her to get blood in her stool, so it took us a long time to track down. I wouldn't stress it was something you ate, that will make it worse. Really it will. Anything could have caused, it might not be food related at all.

you also might want to check your prenatal. My first ob with ds gave me a prescription prenatal with stool softener automaitcally-- I didn't need it! bad, bad, bad.

I'm 14 weeks 2 days.

Last weekend, I had a strange bout of diarrhea, lasted most of the day on and off. I didn't have any stomach pain or cramping.

And then it was gone (and then my 20 month old got it for a day and obviously felt just fine throughout it).

I'm fine, the baby inside is fine, and so is my daughter (in case you ask).

Our bodies do weird things while pregnant.

I was seriously ill from either stomach flu or food poisoning around week 18 of my 3rd pregnancy. It was such a severe illness that my husband ended up being hospitalized for 3 days. Baby is fine (currently nursing, wiggly 11 mo) -- so just wanted to offer the suggestion that even a fairly severe bout with diarrhea and vomiting is not likely to harm your baby.
