I notice that there are some pineapples that leave a stinging sensation on ones tongue when you eat it. Had some yesterday. Has anybody experience that?

yup. I almost never eat pineapple since most sting my tongue too badly.

It's a reaction to the enzyme bromelain in the fresh pineapple. It breaks down protein. This actually makes pineapple is a good tenderizer for meat, if you make a marinade with it. Bromelain also prevents jello from setting, so that's why you can't mix pineapple into jello, but other fruit doesn't cause a problem.

You can try canned pineapple instead. Not as yummy as fresh, but the bromelain is reduced.

I love that taste.

Certain medication might make you more sensitive to the enzymes in pineapple. You might look into it if you take anything.
