7 year olds and effects of chlorine that is in pool

Thread Starter
am curious how bad it is for 5-8 year olds being in a regular private pool for 4 to 7 hours in a day?

they all have tonnes of sunblock

but what about the affects of chlorine on the skin.

my dd and her friends are living in a house with a pool and they want to spend most of the day in the pool.

i saw their cheeks red last night and so have limited being in the water for max 4 hours. day before and last night they were in the pool for about 8-9 hours a day.

No concrete evidence for you here, but I spent, in all seriousness at least a quarter of my childhood in chlorine water. I have a fair number of odd allergies (things that aren't common to be allergic to), horrid reactions to vaccines (that get worse with age), and for several years, my sense of smell was non-existant; it's come back with a vengeance though, I can smell EVERYTHING....

Good questions though!

P.S. hair-soaking shower before swimming, and very sudsy shower afterwards and LOTS OF WATER TO DRINK!

One possible concern would be iodine deficiency. Both chlorine and bromine can interfere with iodine receptors. There's an iodine thread around the TF forum somewhere. I'd probably be sure to include some source of iodine in your diet.

We have one of those inflatable pools with chlorinated water (and drink tap water)...so it isn't something I'd avoid per se, just be wise about.
