Crockpot yogurt-making questions

Is it true that eventually, after several batches, you can't use your own homemade yogurt as a starter and need to use store-bought? I've noticed that my yogurt's been really thin lately... it's always been thin but I think it's been even thinner than usual lately. Could that be related? If I do need to use store-bought for a starter, is it OK to use Greek yogurt as a starter?

TIA for any replies.

Hey OP, I have a question for YOU!

When you make yogurt in your crock, what setting do you use and for how long? Do you do the turn-off-towel-wrap method? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I follow these directions exactly

And the question about Greek yogurt is no longer necessary. The only reason I asked was because I had a coupon for Chobani's, but it turns out my Wegmans doesn't carry Chobani's anyway.
