any suggestions?

I'm hoping to find a fiction story set in the times of Khmer Rouge regime, but I'll settle for a non fiction account of the events that took place in Cambodia at that time.

Thanks!

I wasn't sure if you're looking for a book, but there's a very remarkable film set in that time period.

Check out the Academy Award winning film, The Killing Fields if you haven't seen it already. It's set in Cambodia during the brutal Khmer Rouge regime.

To Destroy you is No Loss is a non-fiction account of that time period in Cambodia told by a 15 year old girl. It's very good. It reads more like a novel than non-fiction.

There is also a sequel about her family coming to America called Bamboo and Butterflies that primarily deals with the immigrant experience but talks about some of their expriences in Cambodia as well.

One of my top ten favorite books is A Cambodian Odyssey by Haing Ngor. It is non-fiction and is very gripping and heart-wretching. I highly recommend it.

thank you very much for all of your suggestions.
I'll check our library if they have anything from this list.

It's youth fiction, but The Children of the River is about a family that fled from the Khmer Rouge.

OT, but my sister just got back from Cambodia. She visited Woman's Island where the Khmer Rouge jailed and executed women and children. Seriously awful stuff happened there that I couldn't get out of my head for days after she told me about it. Be prepared, it absolutely shouldn't be forgotten or hidden but it can weigh heavy on your soul.

It's also nonfiction, but First They Killed My Father is really well written and moving. Written by a woman who was 6 when the Khmer Rouge came to power, about her experiences, and in her voice as the child she was at the time. There were parts that moved me to tears.
