Just curious how it varies by state, thanks

I didn't do any checking around this time, but this birth will be $1900. It seems that the avg was ~2k two years ago when I was shopping around for a provider for my last birth. I'm in northern Utah.

I'm in TX and they run around $2800 for a homebirth to approx $3500 (I'm sure there are some that are more and a few that are less) for a birthcenter birth. This is for a CPM. I don't know about CNM.

In Colorado... My last birth was in 2008 and we paid $3000. She does give a discount if you pay by a certain time. We also have to pay around $50 for a standard birth kit plus another $80ish for the nbs (the state stopped doing them for free).

Cheapest I've found here in the Kansas City area is $1700 on up to $3200. The average is about $2700.

I have no idea since I still can't find a hb mw. I did find one from the Amish lady(she only had 1 name) but that midwife isn't working with non-Amish right now.

In Iowa every home birth fee I've seen is $2250-$3250.

The one HB MW in my area of Louisiana is 2800 and HAS to be paid before the birth. not sure how much her birth kit etc is.

When I was looking into MW in Illinois it was 3000 for a HB, 2400 if paid by 37 weeks and 2000 if you were low income on Medicaid. (I think those were the prices it's been a while since i've seen them since I didn't end up moving.

Gah, here in San Diego, CA 4K or just under is standard. It's worth it, it's worth it... It's just hard to know insurance will pay for a lousy hospital birth and all kinds of unnecessary interventions (which I'm glad will be covered if they do end up NECESSARY) but not for a homebirth.

The mw I interviewed in Maryland seemed to run from 2400 to about 4000.

wow..

Yea Here in BC our provincial medicare covers it. I'll have to get the stuff for the birth and kits stuff and i think it runs about $120 or so.. but you can easily bring the cost down.. but still wow

I'm in California too...along the central coast. The total cost is $4,000. We'll see how much our insurance ends up covering. My DH has been dealing with all of that.

my CPM in Maine charges $3500 for a homebirth. It includes all prenatal and pp care.

Southern NJ -$5000. And I just got bad news from the insurance that they don't cover homebirths.

iowa. mine is $1500 + kit +milage. I think I will probably be paying an extra $500 in milage. And my kit is $55 and other random supplies shouldn't be too much.

This was my experience in the San Antonio area. The birth center here is $4000 with $500 off for self pay and another $500 off if you're military. (There are several military bases here and they know that we can get care on base for free) Most of the midwives I emailed charge $2500 for the birth...some charge for a tub and some don't. I got lucky and found one offering a military discount and am only paying $1800.

Southwest Missouri (Joplin, specifically) here.

When searching I got told fees anywhere from $1500 to $3000.

Here some of the midwives include the prenatals and the birth fee into one big chunk. Others (like mine) just charge a prenatal fee ($50 is what I give to mine but I've heard others who pay anywhere from $20-$60) and then her birth fee is $2000. This includes birth kit and 90% of the supplies for the birth. It's very convenient.

Northern lower Michigan - $3500 for prenatals/delivery/postpartum , I will have additional expense for the pool rental and birth supplies.

A friend in AZ is paying 3000--that's the cash discount if paid by 36 wks...otherwise it's a bit more...

When we were interviewing MW's we heard $2000 up to $3100. I live in the Metro Detroit area (MI). In Ann Arbor there is a midwife that charges $4000+, she's kinda famous in the birthy community though (author, knowledge, etc.).
