Anyone used progesterone to regulate cycles?

Just curious to hear if any of you have used progesterone to regulate your cycle. I used to be so regular, and now am showing signs of decreased progesterone so my naturopath suggested using a progesterone supplement. I just turned 40 so it seems awfully young to have to start this, although she said it would be short term.

Are you glad you use it? How has it helped? TIA!

I use a bio-identical progesterone cream and I'm only 32. I also tried the capsules but I broke out BAD and switched back to cream. It seemed to have worked well in the beginning, but not so much now....although I also take a supplement called DIM to reduce estrogens and I ran out recently and didn't take it for a little while. Now I'm not sure what the deal is. My periods at the moment are 2 weeks on/2 weeks off. I sure hope things get back on track soon!

I'd give it a try and see if it works for you.

I took 50mg capsules. I was very happy wiht the results. I developed some health issues which made is nec to stop the progesterone...... I started them when I was 39! I had too much estrogen and too little progesterone. It was also suggested I add some other supplements in as well, Breast Health, Adrenal Support, Magnesium, and some B. HTH

I used a progesterone cream to lengthen out my cycles. But.... I got tired of buying it and didn't want to be dependent on it for the next few years, so I went after a deeper treatment. I'm doing a constitutional homeopathy treatment and have lengthened my cycle by about a full week.

Every 2 weeks! Ugh! I hope you find something that helps!! When you say you broke out- did you mean with acne? That is one of the things I'm hoping will get better with progesterone!

Would you mind sharing the things that it improved?

I'm hoping to try this for a couple of months and stop, but maybe that isn't being too realistic? I'm wondering why none of my friends talk about this stuff? From what a hear a support group may need to be started!! LOL

One more question.... did taking progesterone change your sex drive at all? Thanks so much ladies for sharing with me!!!!

I used a bio identical cream CD 14-28 for several cycles and it possibly had a positive effect on regulating my cycles. It's worth a try.

I tried it (I'm 41 and for the last 2 years have had sputtering on/off periods for 2 weeks but the day 1 to day 1 starts are 27-28 days so it seems like half the month is wasted). I got massive mood swings on it, and by mutual agreement of DH and I, I stopped it.

Yes, with acne! BAD. My doctor assured me that it's very rare. Somehow my body turned the hormone into androgens...causing acne. It took a full 3 months for it to clear up after I stopped taking it in pill form.

sure. I took it from ovulation to period. My migraines got better, my flow lightened (was so heavy before and LONG, like 8-9 days), my mood swings evened out, I lost the 'in a fog' feeling I got before my period. I really was a mess before. The week before my period I didn't even want to be in the same room with myself. I was awful.
