which disability programs should we apply for?

DD's neuropsych says she needs intensive language therapy to address an acquired language disorder and intervene with other developmental delays, some of which may be stemming from an intellectual disability. She is also exhibiting autistic-like behaviors (but has not been diagnosed as being on the spectrum). Her special needs/disabilities were caused by having a giant cancerous brain tumor as a baby and having surgery, high-dose chemo and radiation. She has minor gross motor delays, bilateral hearing loss, is 100% g-tube fed, and doesn't communicate very much (spoken or sign).

She will be in developmental preschool in the fall for 10 - 12 hrs/ week, but neuropsych recommends additional private therapy beyond that (for language, feeding, social-emotional stuff). We have insurance but the rehab benefit has run out for this year. Folks have suggested we apply for disability benefits for her, but it seems like you have to be low-income for most programs. We are not low-income, but we also don't have money to pay for $100 - 200 private therapy sessions out of pocket.

Are there child disability programs (not based on family income) that can cover therapy after insurance runs out? DD is 3 years old. We live in WA state.

Hello, your DD sure has alot going on.
Is SSI income based? Can you apply for that, or even Katie Beckett. It might be called something different in Washington, but its insurance for disabled kids whos parents make too much for medical assistance. Good Luck!
