I've only used pocket diapers on my dd and need to add some diapers to my stash. I am thinking of buying prefolds and covers, but I am worried that I won't like them and won't use them because I have been spoiled with pockets. I want to save money so that's why I'm thinking pf and covers. Also, I ec so I think the prefolds would help her to notice her wetness. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Personally, i dont really like them. I use them first thing in the morning, for the first poo/pee, and fitteds during the rest of the day. I still have them leak (poo) on me at least once a week, necessitating washing the cover.
Of course, he's also a squirmer, and diapering w a fitted is tough enough.

I love prefolds and covers. We use prefolds almost exclusively with ds#2 (ds#1 wasn't CD'ed). I did have some fitteds and some pockets, but I always loved prefolds (and flats, but that's another thread!). Ds#3 was a more even distribution of prefolds, pockets/AIOs, and fitteds, but we still loved prefolds.
New little bean will be a mostly prefold (and flat) baby. I'm looking at having a few fitteds but no pockets or AIOs. I just love the simplicity of prefolds, plus the ease of washing and drying. There's no elastic to be too tight or too loose, and no snaps or velcro to worry about in terms of fit.
You could get covers/wraps that hold a prefold tri-folded. Then, you won't have to worry about closures (pins or snappi's), and you could pre-"stuff" some covers for the first few changes of the day. Covers like Weehuggers and Flips, from what I've read and seen, hold prefolds pretty well. (I haven't CDed a babe since either have come out in production.) I prefer using a snappi or pins, but many like tri-folding a prefold inside a snug-fitting wrap for ease of diapering.

I second fitteds here.
I find PFs to be kind of a pain. Especially with a squirmer. I LOVE my Snugglebottoms from www.babybunz.com they fit well, are very trim & not that expensive compared to other fitteds. Around $4ea depending on size & closure type.
They are just so much easier & I find I have less leaks with them.

Maybe you can try AppleCheeks. I just got my cover and prefold/insert the other day, and so far I really, really like it on my son. Aside from the fit, I like the versatility b/c you can use it as a cover with inserts, OR you can also stuff it like a pocket diaper. I've already decided I'm going to order 4 more covers with inserts to complete my stash.

We mostly have fitteds, that use pins and then some pockets.
I had a few prefolds and just got a few more because, for us, prefolds are easier than our fitteds. I don't know the brand of prefolds, but I just trifold them in our Thirsties covers. The poo does sometimes get on the cover, but we do laundry every other day and it's not a big deal.

We have been really surprised by how much we've liked prefolds and covers. My preference (and the easiest, I think) is a trifolded prefold in a cover with a "flap" at the top that can tuck it in - i.e., Bummis SWW, Thirsties DuoWraps (not sure if all Thirsties have it, as we only have the Duos), or Swaddlebees ABC wraps. It's really about as easy - if not easier - than a pocket. We do go through more covers this way than if we were snappi'ing because there's more likelihood poo will escape. That being said, our premium PFs, trifolded the "wrong" way has excellent coverage in most of the covers (especially DuoWraps), so it's not that bad.

I would get some OS fitteds. Most of them are big enough to use through PL and then you can sell them on or use them for another child. They're more expensive but easier to use than prefolds.
I recommend goodmamas and Imse Vimse soft covers--a pricey option but you'll get 20 months or so use out of them, use them on your next child/ren or sell them on so it evens out in the long run!

I used prefolds, then pockets with DD and am thinking about switching to sized fitteds and mostly wool covers for the new bean, due this fall.
Prefolds were fine for us until she started really moving around, and then the problem wasn't so much the prefolds as the cheap velcro-closure covers. Velcro just didn't stick any more. We needed snaps. So, whatever you do, I would recommend snap closure for the cover (if not pull-on wool).

I loved prefolds with wrap covers with aplix tabs (we used Bummis Super Whisper Wraps). They were so easy to put on, even DH finally preferred those the best when he did the changing.
We only ever used two folds...when the prefolds were almost the perfect length, we just did basic angel wing with any little extra fabric folded toward the tummy. When the diapers were long, we did the bikini twist....which is really so much easier to do if someone shows you than from looking at pictures.
We both thought a prefold with a BSWW was actually easier to put on than a disposable.
I also had pockets and a few fitteds available....the prefolds were easier, faster, and more absorbent than any of the fitteds. Much less expensive too.
