DD was five in April! She is really funny, and smart, and strongwilled, and really pays attention to everything that is going on. She's very perceptive.
what does your 5-year-old do all day? -- I work from home, so in the school year she goes to preschool/daycare from 9-4 four days per week, and now that it's summer she's at camp for four weeks, 9-3. We had a week vacation in July and we have another one in August and then the last two weeks we're going to wing it and hopefully my work won't suffer too much and we'll be able to balance some fun. But, when she is home she likes to play with her toys and with our neighbors 4 kids.
-does your 5-year-old play alone? Sometimes. She was more into playing alone last year. Now she and neighborgirl are best friends and they play together most afternoons.
-favorite toys? Polly Pockets, American Girl dolls. Some barbie--mostly in the pool and tub. She also still looooves dress up. We built her a fancy playhouse outside and she and the neighbors use that as their clubhouse as well.
-do you allow tv? if so, what are some favorite shows? Bleh, TV. She love iCarly and Hannah Montana and SuperWhy and Dinosaur train.
-does your dc dress himself/herself every day? Not always, but she can when I ask her to.She puts her jammies on by herself every night.
-is your dc reading or interested in learning to read? She is interested in reading and starting to spell everything. We have some simple books we read together--she can sound some words out and she has a lot of sight words.
-is your dc agreeable? cooperative? oppositional? flexible? open to new ideas/experiences? All of these things sometimes! I never quite know what I'm going to get in a given situation. In general, she is pretty "game" to try anything. I can't get her jazzed about hiking in the woods as much as I would like. She's a little intense, and not always nice, but then she can also be supercharismatic. I work with her to try to channel her energy into good leadership behavior but sometimes she can be a pill.
-does your dc have any potty issues (forgetting to use bathroom, wetting bed, etc.)? No, she is awesome at that! No accidents, has never peed at night (knock wood) ever since she PT'd one day. However, she didn't PT until 3.5.
-how are dc's eating habits? Picky? Experimenting with new foods? She is pretty open/game for anything with food as well. I think she is good about listening to her body. She'll turn down dessert if she is full, which I really respect. She doesn't like celery and tomatoes but otherwise she eats everything.
-what are some fun things you do together with dc?--We play the Polly Pockets, we go to the beach, we go to the mall and ride the little rides there--that's a special day, she loves that. We bake cupcakes and she is a great helper and likes to do little chores for me. I read her tons of books and take her to B&N frequently. We lay on the couch every day at 4:30 and watch Giada together. We make popcorn. We go kayaking.
