I've read many of the reviews on MDC and I can't make heads or tails of them. One review loves this brand another loves that one. When I see the cders at my mommy groups I notice many of them are using the bummis super brites. What's the difference between those and the super whisper wrap? Any other brand suggestions. I see that some people complain about wicking. I hate when diapers wick! Also, how many wraps do you think I'd need? I will be using them for around 6 diapers a wash cycle.

Hi,
I found this really difficult too. I think one of the big things is that different covers suit differnt babies which is why some people love a cover that others didn't like at all.
So, with that in mind I'll give you my opinion
We have Thirsties Duo wraps, Bummis Super Whisper wraps and Flips. We use them with terry squares, Flip microfibre inserts and another type of insert from Knicker nappies.
Our favourite so far is the Thirsties. Easiest to get a good fit, elastic never leaves red marks, least likely to leak. We use the medium size over the terry squares and the small size with the inserts.
The Bummis SWW tends to run smaller than the Thirsties so even te medium doesn't fit too well over the terry squares now. It also sometimes leaves red marks on her legs and it's harder to get a good fit around the legs (no gusset like Thirsties).
The Flip is pretty good. We use it with the inserts and also as a cover for the terries. Lovely soft, covered elastic, no red marks. A bit harder to put on and get a good fit with the press studs instead of velcro.
We don't get urine leaks at all. Poo explosions still happen fairly often but are *usually* contained by the cover. But, the cover then has to be washed so we can go though 4-5 covers a day on a bad day. This may be our nappy application technique of course
If I was starting from scratch now I would probably just get the Thirsties and not bother with the others.
We usually wash nappies every 2-3 days. We have 5 small covers and 8 medium covers currently in use.

The bummis super brite is just PUL (no cloth lining), where as the SWW has cloth lining. For me, I actually prefer the superbrite, because it has an interior leg gusset, and the SWW does not.
My main problem with the bummis cover is the exposed velcro. I can't leave dS in just a diaper+cover, he must have a shirt on, or onesie, or whatever, because the velcro scratches his tummy when he bends forward and his tummy gets pretty red. I prefer the bumkins covers that are a thinner PUL, have the interior leg gussets, and have a cloth back on the velcro tabs.
I also have flips, and I do really like them. I like snaps for myself and DH, but velcro/aplix is easier for other caregivers.

I have to say my very favorite covers are Thirsties. The duos are great but I like the originals even more!
They have never leaked for me (8 months so far) and I use them with prefolds that are snappied.
When Dd was a newborn, I had 4 Thirsties covers and someone had given me a couple SWW and Super Brites but I always used the Thirsties unless it was an emergency and all the covers were pooped on. I wash every other day and usually 4 were just enough but I like having 6.
I moved up to Thirsties Mediums and they are also a great fit, no red marks anywhere and no leaks.
ETA I forgot, I have 2 Lite Wraps now also and they are great at holding everything in but are a little bulky, which I don't mind but some people might. They are also a little thicker so I haven't used them when it is hot.
And also, I have an Imse Vimse wool cover. I love that one so much, it is so soft and has gussets and fits great. I love it for the summer and am trying to figure out how we can get a couple more, they are a little expensive for us.

i'm gonna second (third?) the thirsties... soft, flexible, good fit and very attractive colours. i like the bummis super brite too, but i only have them because i bought a few second hand. they don't have a gusset, and are a bit stiffer/bulkier i find, but they are totally functional.
my biggest issue with the thirsties duo is that size 1 runs a bit small... it's supposed to go up to 18 lbs, but i really doubt that will happen. size 2 seems huge, so there seems to be a bit of a discrepancy between the two stages. for example, we have a couple thirsties x-small, which have only just been outgrown... yet the duo size 1 is already getting a bit snug.
i just bought two blueberry covers. i basically pulled out all the PUL covers that my local diaper store carried and compared sizes and fit. the blueberries are super cute, and seemed to be the best over all in terms of fitting a super small baby and a large baby too, without being really bulky or awkward looking. if the thirsties duo 1 was just a bit bigger, i would be with them ALLLL the way. we haven't had a poo with the blueberries yet, so we'll have to see how they compare with the thirsties for poo containment.

now I do not like the Thirsties Duo. I have 2 in diapes & can not get it to fit either properly.
I also like the flip, but my favorite cover now is custom made by Swaddle in Cloth www.swaddleincloth.com She has a store on etsy & hyena cart. Its PUL & has gussets & you can buy what she has made or pick out cool PUL colors/patterns. They were around $11 or $12. I also like wool covers
