How many of you got pg while TTA

I was wondering how many in this forum got pregnant although they were trying to avoid?
And if you did get pg, would you say it was you getting less diligent?

We were charting to avoid and I got pregnant. We did not follow the rules so that's how it happened. We did not wait for the third high temp to confirm O and we DTD twice on the day of the second "high temp". Turns out that those two "high temps" were not accurate for some reason, which I have still not figured out BTW, and I had not O'd yet. So I thought I had O'd on CD 12, we DTD twice on CD 14 and I O'd on CD 15.

The first time we were CTA we were using the Doering rule
Earliest temperature shift minus 7 = First fertile day. I think we pushed it to minus 5 that cycle and then I ovulated early on top of that.

This time around it was CD37 and I still haven't ovulated, DH and I decided that we were willing to take risk of possibly making a baby.. I ovulated two days later on CD39. We're due in February.

Basically - We don't strictly follow the rules. If we really did not want to get pregnant /mind getting pregnant we wouldn't be dtd until 3-4 days after confirmed ovulation.

We got pregnant while CTA. We were diligent every time, but that one time. If I hadn't been drinking that night we probably wouldn't have gotten pregnant though. lol. I don't even remember the some of that night, so there was no way I was going to remember that I was fertile! Oops!

Yep, we played fast and loose with the rules one month after abstaining for four months after having a baby.

It got to be day 40 of my cycle and I assumed that I just wasn't going to ovulate that month. Little did I know that ovulation was just delayed that month.

No sooner had we dtd than I felt a tell-tale pinch in my side. Oh my heavens, I had just ovulated right then.

So two of our children are 14 months apart. It worked out great and was my easiest pregnancy/labor/birth/post-partum by far.

But we've been more careful since.

i got pregnant while TTA .. i was not charting temps, just CM/CP .. we were relying on withdrawl during questionable times and i o'd 2 days early without any warning and the whole withdrawl thing failed i guess.. (no slip up there..)

We did, twice. I think the first time (if memory serves me) we dtd in the fertile window and used a not-so-effective method of bc. That was DS2. The second time we dtd on day 7 with no signs of upcoming ovulation so we should have been fine. The next day I started getting sign and ended up ovulating on day 13 which was a little early for my cycles. So it was 6 days after and that was dd.

Oh oh, I better get that Charting Thermomter then and stop relying on just CM....
Keep the posts coming, though!

I've gotten pg twice so far but that's what I've been hoping for. My dh is the one who wants to avoid so it's his responsibility. He's supposed to w/d but hasn't. Definitely user failure rather than method failure since there wasn't even an attempt to w/d.

we use withdrawal, and we were just careless one time! DS was a first try baby as well, so lesson learned.

When I was 17, I got pg with dd1 while using protection. We had gone four months, no protection, the first month we used protection, pregnant. It could have been a missed timing as far as when we started using the protection...at 17, I didn't know nearly as much about cycles, fertile windows etc.

Then my next required six years of trying, and ultimately an IVF.

Currently pg, we weren't actively trying to avoid, but I was on antidepressants, that had the side effect of inhibiting ovulation. In addition, due to have a 1 year old, and the ppd and a whole host of other issues, the baby making activities were just not happening much...I think that the month we got pg, relations occured maybe 3 times at most. So, while we weren't actively tta, we weren't trying at all and there were factors in place that would normally be preventative in nature.

We were charting to avoid. After charting 20 cycles successfully, we got pg on my 21st cycle. At first we thought it was a withdrawal failure. However, looking back now, I believe I ovulated 5 days later than I thought and 5 days put me at like 3 dpo in my LP when we had non protected sex. So, instead of ovulating on CD 18 as I thought, it was more like CD 25. It was also my first time in my life working full time night shifts 3 nights a week, so my temps were not really accurate. I should have given my body more time in hinsight but after charting for 20 cycles to TTA I thought we had it down.

Make sure you are very diligent with accuracy of your temp and cervical fluid. If you are ever in doubt, dont take the chance, use protection.

Good Luck!
