STINKY workout clothes, HELP!

Hey Ladies and Gents!

I know this is a bit off topic but I could use some help with the laundry!

I workout 4-5 days a week and my workout clothes are starting to STINK! This seems to happen every summer I'm at a lose as what to do next. I wash with free and clear detergent (about 1/2 the recommended amount) and vinegar then line dry. I have try soaking in vinegar. I've tried natural enzyme cleaner both in the wash and soaked in. I broke down last week and bought "Tide Sports Wash", oh god it was horrible. It seems tide thinks if they put enough fragrance in a detergent it will cover up the smell! My workout clothes still have the BO problem but ALSO stunk of Tide fragrance

Please help any ideas?

Have you tried Borax? or adding baking soda to the wash cycle? Those help me with especially stinky diapers. I hear ya on the Tide smell ... YUCK!

I will try baking soda tonight after workout. Has anyone tried oxiclean has that helped? The unsented sports washes I'm finding on amazon are $$$$$, I would like to avoid shelling out the money if I can

Are you putting them some place they can air out in between washing?
Maybe sunlight to help kill germies?

I just started using Oxiclean, it helps a lot. I highly recommend it!

i find that if my workout clothes get put in the laundry while wet/damp from sweating they end up more likely to smell so I will often hang em on a towel rack to "dry" before loading them up. I also like to use a an extra rinse cycle. I have used oxiclean for the kids which works great for stains.

My dh insists on Oxiclean for his workout clothes because he claims it's the only thing to get the funk out, lol! I work out several times a week but, so far, regular detergent gets the smell out.

I just started using Win Green Sport Detergent. So far so good.

I agree with the Oxy stuff. And I lay the soaking wet clothing on the side of the laundry bin so it airs out a bit and dries.

Another vote for OxiClean!

Oxygen bleach is good stuff. It can weaken elastic and fibers so only use when needed, but it's a wonderful destinkifier.

Have you tried handwashing the armpits with some hand soap before you wash them? Rub on some soap and give them a quick scrub and rinse and then chuck in the wash and was like normal.

^^That's true as well. If I wash my stuff in the machine, I use OxiClean and regular detergent. By hand, I was with Dr. Bronner's Eucalyptus or Peppermint soap and really focus on the armpits and stuff . . . no smell.

I've found soaking them for a bit helps tremendously. A lot of times I'll just throw my workout clothes in the bathroom sink and let them soak in plain water while I shower. Then I either throw them right in the washer or drape them over the laundry basket till I can wash them. I also usually add baking soda to the wash. They come out clean and fresh when I do this.

I will chime in with a recommedation on the WIN detergent, like a pp. You need something that will kill bacteria, as that is what causes the smell. Anti-Microbial Febreeze will work also. Just spray on the stinky spots and let sit like with Shout or something, then wash normally.

*thinking aloud* Do you eat lots of greens? Chlorophyll is nature's deodorizer.
