What does your elementary school child's room look like?

Now that my son is 7 and entering 2nd grade, he has really made a change in the sorts of toys he plays with (i.e., bigger toys have made way for much more annoyingly small toys, lol!).

Though his room's floor and closet are clean and clear, his 2 shelves are filled with these small toys, tons of books and workbooks, etc. Just interested to see what other children who are his age have, use, and what their rooms look like.

Thanks!

My Daughter will be 7 in October and entereing first grade. Her room is mostly small stuff like polly pockets and stuffed animals. She is really into stuffed animals and owns way too many!

Katie, have you found a great way to keep the little toys less cluttered? DS has Bakugan, Legos, little Pokemon figurines and cards...I gave him an extra little IKEA basket to toss the Bakugan in, he has a binder for the cards, etc. but things still just seem to look trashy in his room, no matter how well we organize.

We use one of these for small things. It has worked quite well at containing things like legos and polly pockets.

My son is 8 and is in Year 2 at primary school...I expect that is much the same as your 'elementary' school?

His toys are so hard to keep tidy. He keeps some of them downstairs in a room off the lounge and sometimes plays down there...so I keep a couple of large toy buckets there.

In his room we currently have a big open set of shelves but we are planning to get rid of it because it is too deep so his toys get lost at the back, and it collects dust. Some of the shelves have books/containers of pens/ card games/ activity books, and others have small toys like legos, transformers etc strewn in a pile...really hard to dust! But if I put these things in a closed container, he just forgets they are there and doesn't play with them!

His tastes in toys have definitely changed over time...I am about to get rid of a lot of the larger toys like dinosaurs etc..

He is now asking for a desk in his room to do his homework at, so we are thinking of getting something like this..

My 9yr old sons room has an Ikea coffee table in it with two large storage container that slide into the table. They are full of the little lego. there are a few containers on top with lego in as well. He has two shelving units (also Ikea) that hold lego creations and then there is a trofast unit with bins in it for all his odds and ends. He actually keeps his bedroom really tidy.

My 11yr old son has an Expedit shelving unit with attached desk l The shelves are full of lego creations! There are also two bookshelves full of books in his room as well as a trofast unit and bins for his other stuff.

Neither boys are really into toys other than lego now.

Is this the one he has?

We are getting that one for our lounge room.

They no longer carry it. We have had it for over 7 years and it has been very well used. Imagine lots and lots of children climbing on it and jumping on it, turning it upside down and dragging it around using it as a bus, car or boat.

Thanks for the inspiration, everyone! Yesterday I dedicated the entire afternoon to decluttering his room (this seems to be a once-a-season tradition in his room ). I tried to make better use of the space he has (thank goodness for his loft bed with shelves and a desk underneath!). I love the ideas you all have in your own spaces and may incorporate some of them with time...and wow, that desk looks super! I would love to have my own desk like that, lol!
