I am pretty new to healthy eating/cooking. I am trying to move my family away from processed convienience foods, which is hard since I woh, but we are making some progress.
After seeing how much stuff our neighborhood grocery store imports from other countries, I have been making an effort to schedule a trip the the Farmer's Market. I love going anyway, but it does involve scheduling around dh and kids activities. I finally told my dh that I want to start buying only local produce, if possible (no more "grown in Mexico"). So the other day, he saw an advertisement of a store that was carrying local produce and he made a point to let me know. It made me happy that he was listening and is thinking about such things now, especially since he does some of the shopping.
A VICTORY FOR ME: I learned how to cook Brussel Sprouts so I like them. I have always hated them and would gag when trying to eat them. They were usually boiled and mushy, now I saute them instead and they are really good. My dh, who loves BS almost anyway, specifically asked me to make them "my way" for him - this was a night he was cooking dinner. I am so glad to have something other than broccoli as a green veggie. Now to get the kids to eat them.
Now I need some healthy recipe alternatives that are quick and stay away from processed ingredients. I also need some packable lunch ideas for work.
