Why not?

I haven't been to the dentist in 3 years due to not having insurance. I am relatively young, healthy, and do not have a history of cavities.
I have some money set aside for the dentist. But they insist they have to re-do all the x-rays and some other things even though they know I am paying out of pocket, all of this is well over 200 dollars. If I just want a cleaning and assessment (for instance, if I have any cavities, not anticipating any however) why can't I just get that? Or can I if I am very direct this is all I want done as I no longer have insurance.

I'd talk to a different office. You may need to sign something about a limited assessment type of thing, but that seems reasonable. I took DS in when he was a toddler for a brownish spot that I was concerned about and it was booked as a limited examination or something like that, something that indicated it was not complete. Some offices may be very concerned in a liability sense, and if they can't work with you, then I'd just move on.

Do you have a Comfort Dental near you? They advertise a $19 exam and x-ray special for new patients. Maybe you can find something similar.
